Fanlistings Chit-Chat / CodeGrrl PHP scripts vulnerability
« on: November 16, 2005, 01:46:40 PM »
Just to reinforce the importance of fixing stuff like this (hopefully she won't mind my mentioning it), our own Loki just had her domain nuked by this very vulnerability, within hours of the announcement. It happens, people. Take care. ^_^

Questions for the Senior Staff / About Fansubs....
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:34:19 AM »
Subs, fansubs, dubs, fandubs... it's all anime, which is covered by the Anime fanlisting. All of these are what we consider to be "versions of", same as the Characters rule. This has always been our standard and I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon.

Sorry to disappoint! :\

News and Announcements / Goods for Auction/Trade/Sale Forum
« on: November 14, 2005, 11:29:15 PM »
After seeing several posts over the past few weeks by new members, where it is obvious that the only reason the person has joined our boards is to sell their goods, I have set the Goods for Auction/Trade/Sale forum to moderate all new topics.

I apologize for any delay this may cause our true members, but it seems some people have decided we're merely a goods-for-sale board, or a good place to advertise, or a good place to spam, when that is not at all what these boards are about!

The Goods for Auction/Trade/Sale forum exists for the convenience of our *board regulars*, not as an open invitation for anyone wanting to offload merchandise. I hope the new moderation policy makes that clear to any future trolls in the audience. ^_^

Questions for the Senior Staff / Have two fanlistings for the same subject
« on: November 09, 2005, 06:11:59 PM »
Yes, the TFL approval is for the song, as listed by the band that did it, and the TAFL approval is for the song, as listed by the series it belongs to. Usually people cross-list them (or try to), since it is the same song, after all, but some people know it by the band, others by the anime.

So yes, if one was taken at TAFL, you could apply for the song at TFL if it wasn't listed there, but the fl would need to be about the song and the band... not the song and the anime. ^^;;; Hence, in the links you posted, why the one shows the band, the other shows FMA, on the layout.

I suppose my advice would be that, if an anime song is taken at TAFL, you probably should know something about the song and the band, lest fans of the band get annoyed by a fanlisting focused on the wrong thing, listed at TFL. (Also, the Songs staffer emails me when a fl is obviously trying to be the anime song fl instead of the band song fl. ;) )

General / Question about the yaoi/shoune-ai genre listings
« on: November 08, 2005, 10:25:07 PM »
I agree, they should remain as-is, and as Shadow gave a very adequate response, I feel I need add nothing further. :ph34r:

Questions for the Senior Staff / Re: Fake Members/Spammers
« on: October 26, 2005, 12:56:44 PM »
I've combined your topics, since they regard the same issue.

Basically, if you feel fairly confident that these are spammers, and the email addresses are obviously not valid, you may delete them. Email validity is a requirement for most fanlistings, my own included, and if the email fails, I delete them. If you aren't quite sure (this seems a pretty clear-cut case, especially since the submissions for you two are identical), you can always hide/delete their URL. I certainly wouldn't risk linking them. ^_^;;

Normally, of course, the network doesn't condone deletion of members, unless they are submitting obviously false information (fake countries), or their email address is invalid. In your case, the email definitely looks spam-tacular. :rolleyes:

I felt I should announce to you guys too, that Lenneth (Momoka) has left staff, due to RL issues, and Kel has agreed to step up in her place. Please make Kel feel welcome, and wish her luck! ^^ :D

Questions for the Senior Staff / About Image Song Collection Music?
« on: October 15, 2005, 12:13:56 AM »
Currently, since albums are not allowed (as most of them would be OSTs and are covered by Music of), we will have to discuss this amongst the Senior Staff at our next meeting, to see what to do in this case. We'll get back to you, ok? ^^;

Questions for the Senior Staff / What if nobody is joining your fl?
« on: September 29, 2005, 05:14:31 PM »
Well, you are still required to post updates, so you might want to say "Month Day, Year: Nobody's joined!" It shows that you are still actively tending it, it's just an obscure subject. Also, if you use Enth, you can go in and edit a member's info (not change anything, but pull them up and hit "save changes", which then resets their modification date.
Haha, I just noticed the "birthday" thing down at the bottom of the forum has the network actually listed as a member, and in interests it says "My highest aspiration is to be a large link directory, catering to thousands of anime and manga fans."

IT LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVES! *evil laugh* XD

LMAO, that so made my day (or rather, morning) :bounce:
[cheers] Someone looked at the profile finally!  XD XD XD Yes, that was my doing, I thought it'd be cute to have it pop up today.  :strong:

Happy birthday TAFL, once again! Wooo!!  :birthday:

News and Announcements / HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY, TAFL!!
« on: September 24, 2005, 01:16:26 PM »
As indicated on the TAFL index page, September 25th is TAFL's 1st birthday!! (We survived!)

I'd first like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for a year (and more!) of support, patronage and just being so gosh-darned friendly. Quite a few TFL staffers have remarked upon what a pleasant place our boards are (and the network in general, too), and the blame sits squarely on you, our pleasant visitors! Together, we have made this network a great place to list fanlistings, and a great place to make friends. Thank you.

By year five, as we witnessed recently @ TFL, I fully intend to make the birthday celebration stretch out for a month, and have all the fantabulous graphics and goodies they did, but since this is just our first (and since I didn't have nearly enough time to prepare!), I hope a couple of cake pictures will do. ^^ The first is on the index page, of course, and another is coming....  ;)  You'll just have to wait a while to see what it is! :hyper: Also, you might notice one of our "board members" is having a birthday today...  :hyper: (Also, happy birthday MaroonCaludin! ;) )

I'd also like to bring up a need we have, while everyone is celebrating (please don't leave the thread!) As some of you know, TAFL is hosted by DreamHost, and we recommend them highly. (I also host almost all of my personal sites through them, on a larger plan, and have nothing but high praises to sing.) As any DreamHoster knows, every time someone refers you when they sign up for paid services, DreamHost gives a $97 referral bonus. To TAFL, one referral is almost TEN MONTHS of hosting! When donations and referrals are slim, all expenses for TAFL (three domain registrations, hosting, etc) are 100% out of pocket for myself and the Senior Staff, so I can't tell you how great it is that we've received a couple of referrals so far, which covered us until now. (The referral bonus was smaller prior to March.)

Currently, we have received one additional referral since March and our hosting expenses are paid for the next year, assuming nothing changes. HOWEVER: TAFL does have a need, as I mentioned.

Our message board runs on Invision Board, and at the time this site was set up (April 2004), you could download a demo version and patches for free. Invision changed their site last November-ish, and since then, we have been unable to log in at ALL without paying a yearly or lifetime licensing fee. What I'm talking here, of course, is security patches, bug fixes etc. A lifetime license costs $185, but would be well worth it since the boards are so highly-trafficked, and have served our purposes perfectly over the 16 months we've had it installed. Now, while raising $200 is a pretty steep goal, considering everyone here is a poor anime fan (myself included!), since DreamHost also allows you to cash out referral bonuses (for a very small fee), two paid referrals will buy us this lifetime board license.

Let me repeat that: ALL WE NEED is two, just TWO of you, to sign up for hosting through DreamHost, refer TAFL, and we will be able to upgrade our message board... now and FOREVERMORE!

Since these boards are, well, a second home to some of you, this isn't much to ask. (DH plans start at just $9.95 per month!) If you would like to help out TAFL, either click here to sign up, or simply fill in the "Referred by?" blank when signing up with our DH username, animefanlistings. (If you do not see a blank like this, either you clicked on the link above, or you clicked on someone else's link, and the referral ID has already been inputted for you.)

Thanks so much for a year of good times, great fanlistings and general A/M love, and I wish you all the best!

Sincerely,
Danielle (aka teh D-mama)
TAFL Network Owner ^^

Questions for the Senior Staff / Crosslisting
« on: September 20, 2005, 12:56:27 AM »
Um, it would depend on whether or not the person had applied to cross-list or not. In most cases (with a few exceptions here and there), the owner is responsible for cross-listing, so if they hadn't, it could be approved here under a separate owner. We do try to have the same fl cross-listed though, when possible, as it makes for less fanlistings for the same subject. ^^;
