General Questions and Discussion / questions
« on: April 22, 2006, 11:04:12 PM »
I don't think it will take more than a couple of days, I've already setup everything I just need to add the code snippets to each fanlisting n.n. so, I can tell that on wednesday 26 they will be back-online. is that okay? (unless unexpected troubles v.v)

I've update my hiatus page with the return-date, thanks a lot Jackie

Finaly ^^u I'm converting most of my fanlistings into Enth3, but as I'm currently owning a fair amount of fanlistings I prefered avoiding error pages and DB errors /hate when i get a 404 error page ^^u/ this is why I put up a "Temporary Hiatus" templated page for index page in each FL being converted (as this one).

My wonder is: Is it enough with explaining with this kind of page why the FL is currently down and for a short period of time along a post on downtime & host troubles subforum, or do I need to email each category staffer to let they know o.ó? (because I want to avoid any troubles strike of course v.v)

thanks for your help

oh well, this is the first time in more than a year that something like that happened to me ,so before doing anything else I though in asking first ^^u

today (beetwen 3-5pm) I lost (though not confirmed yet by the host company) all my DBs information and because of that fact, all my fanlistings have sql problems (they can't conect, either approve or email members). I've inmediatly requested assistance from my host company and still waiting an answer/solution. Meanwhile if what i fear most is confirmed, which means if I my Dbs have actually been erased, I still have my backup so there's no major lost either in that matter.
my wondering is if I should send a contact form with details of my fls and probably hostees under each category or there is some easy way like a general email ,or even direct staffers email ,to send them a message with each category separated and well detailed?
My fear there is getting a certain amount of fls in troubles, when this problem is out of my hands, at least for this moment .

thank a lot for your time! :furious:

Questions for the Senior Staff / about TC volunteers form
« on: December 26, 2005, 10:23:57 PM »
okay, I know that you need a quite few contact medias so staffers and people involved in AFL org can comunicate easily, but before sending or considering an app I was wondering one thing as I couldn't find an answer for it.
on the volunteer form you request : AIM/ MSN/ ICQ& Yahoo usernames. are they an obligation to fill out them all? or can someone just fill out with 1,2 or 3 of those requested accounts ?
I ask it 'cause, I'm currently not using that much my AIM & ICQ ones, so I'm not sure if filling them or not....*confused*
thank you for your time >.<

Questions for the Senior Staff / About Fansubs....
« on: November 15, 2005, 11:30:46 PM »
I didn't know exactly where to post this, but since it's a fl subject and category inquiring  I though it correspond to be here, anyway feel free to move it if it doesn't ^^;;

So you are wondering what I'm talking about, well there is a certain curious and interesting thing, I was wondering if Anime Fansubs (anime subbed by fans, no comercial use and stuff) could be a fl subject, same thing with manga unofficial traslations made by fans? And if they are considered like "can be" in wich category will they fall? under Fanstuff/General or General category?

Personaly I think most, what we call "official" dubbed anime really, well..., are not great and most of time change everything on a series, included songs, character names etc...the neverending list, and fansub are not perfect of course but at least they contribute on the fandom spread.

So what do you think about it? *confused*

EDIT: oh! it's okay Danielle, I was just wondering about  ^^;; thanks

General / Question about the yaoi/shoune-ai genre listings
« on: November 08, 2005, 11:14:00 PM »
agree too, shounen-ai as pointed can be non-sexual or not very explicit relationships.
quoted a defnition I also use a lot , and i think it's mostly correct.

Quote
Shōnen-ai (少年愛 from 少年 shōnen young man + 愛 ai love) refers to anime or manga that deals with love between young men, especially of the bishonen variety. In its infancy, the genre originally dealt with very strong but non-sexual relationships between young men. Nowadays, it has come to refer to romantic male-male relationships.

Shōnen-ai is usually less explicit or sexual than yaoi, and the characters involved in shōnen-ai are generally of a much younger age.
Ironically, the term shōnen-ai is not used as often in Japan; the wasei-eigo construction Boys Love (ボーイズラブ bōizu rabu but usually rendered as English, occasionally spelled Boy's Love or Boys' Love, or abbreviated BL) has largely displaced it, due to associations of the original term with pederasty or pedophilia (which were not borrowed into English usage). (This is doubly ironic, since the similar English term boylove has the exact meaning Boys Love was coined to avoid.) The Japanese Wikipedia link on the side of this page links to ボーイズラブ (boīzu rabu) rather than to shōnen-ai.

Shōnen-ai must be differentiated from actual homosexual-market comics; the relationships depicted are between boys, often as young as fourteen, twelve or even ten years old, and are often completely psychologically impossible. The dynamics depicted are unrealistic — the goal of shōnen-ai is the perpetuation of fantasy, not an actual depiction of homosexual life. Though some gay market-oriented comics have been published in Japan, they have always been underground, independent affairs, with small circulation and little coverage.

sorry....my post is sooo long
