Questions for the Senior Staff / how applications are decided
« on: February 20, 2005, 12:43:51 PM »
This question is answered in the FAQ and is reprinted here:
Quote
What happens when there are a lot of applications for one subject? Is it first come, first served?
No. If a subject receives many applications, it's not necessarily given to the first person who applies. We judge the applications on many different factors, such as the person's html skills, level of fanness (judged by comments etc.), number of fanlistings on upcoming, number of fanlistings in the fandom, etc. The list goes on, and each staffer weighs these factors differently. There is no specific, uniform formula on who gets selected, but every staffer makes the choices he or she believes is best.

General / Shonen Jump a company?

If that was the case, then Jump Comics would be the company, not Shounen Jump..?

Questions for the Senior Staff / Dubbed anime?
« on: January 19, 2005, 10:21:59 PM »
To add to that, we have also cross-listed characters and relationships from Sailor Moon that were in the tv live-action series at TFL, to make it clear that it's the same character, just in a different venue. Original anime Usagi is the same as dubbed anime Usagi as manga Usagi as musical Usagi as live-action Usagi. Same character, different medias. We try to avoid potentially duplicate fanlistings if at all possible. ^^;

As to the specific issue of dub vs original songs in anime, we highlight the difference because often the dub-song is quite different than the original song, performed by different artists -- in the case of Sailor Moon, again, the original opening Moonlight Densetsu, the dub opening took the basic melody and set it against completely different (*cough*annoying*) lyrics.

Questions for the Senior Staff / English VS Japanese

YOu would apply for that at TFL, since it is not a Japanese song.

For anyone who couldn't access the site just now, our server was being rebooted, and so the site was just down for a few minutes. My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. ^^;;

Questions for the Senior Staff / Hmm an interesting question
« on: January 12, 2005, 12:54:25 PM »
The automated applied-fls thing you ask for is not possible under our current system, as the applications are merely emails, and are not entered into the database. Under the new backend we are currently working on, this would all be possible, and you could also see the day you applied, etc etc. So I guess my quick answer is "someday! but not today."

As for the rest, you may want to make sure the staffer got your form in the first place. We check your number of applications by asking the rest of the staff on our staff boards. You may also want to make sure the category you applied in is not still backlogged, check your spam filter to make sure you didn't just not get your rejection or approval, etc etc. We can only send out the approval (or rejection) and mark it as bounced on the update blog, but we can't do much once the email leaves our hands, then it's between your spam filter and you, I'm afraid. ^^;;

Questions for the Senior Staff / Sidestories
« on: January 04, 2005, 12:25:37 PM »
That would be considered part of the manga itself, in my opinion. Much in the way that we do not allow fanlistings for a "chapter" of a manga, sidestories would be out, as they would be part of the series fanlisting.

Momoka, Jackie and I are absolutely DELIGHTED to announce the addition of Mella to the Senior Staff. Mella will be our new Board Administrator, and we three feel she will be fantastic in her new position.  :/  :/

We hope that with this addition we can serve your needs better, and run an even tighter ship here at TAFL. Congratulations Mella! :spork: :rofl: :rofl:

News and Announcements / Two new forums!
« on: December 04, 2004, 02:17:57 PM »
Unfortunately I can't set it up that way, so I have allowed replies instead, and modified the read-me file to add "contact info" if you want people to ask you questions, or are looking for a ride or accommodations. Reply, reply to your heart's content!

No, hence the instructions to leave your contact info (if you are the poster), in order that people may contact you with questions. ^^

Edit: if it becomes apparent that replies are necessary, or if a good argument is presented for allowing replies, I can change it. I just figured there'd be the usual assortment of "yay! sounds fun" posts, which really aren't needed if you're just trying to communicate the details of an upcoming event. ^^;;;

News and Announcements / The Characters/Items Applications Backlog
« on: November 14, 2004, 04:51:58 PM »
As many of you know, C/I has been backlogged for the better part of two months. We have organized several staffers to start clearing that backlog, the first batch of applications to be sent out today. I wanted to take a moment and explain how this process will be handled, to avoid any confusion on your part.

For starters PLEASE DO NOT RESUBMIT APPLICATIONS. Unless I have confirmed to you personally that we do not have your app, do not resubmit under any circumstances.

Each staffer has been given an alphabetical chunk of subjects to approve or reject. They will post in the updates blog, along with a reminder that their update is incomplete and represents only a small portion of applications, from a specific time frame. (And ask you again to not resubmit!!) As such you will see several applications updates, none of them "complete", but all of them working towards clearing the backlog.

We will start with all apps prior to October 24, 2004, which represents the giant troubles removal. Once those applications are cleared, we will begin on the removal applications. This may take 1-2 weeks, perhaps slightly longer, depending on how fast the 5-6 of us can work. Please do NOT harass any staffer working on these updates, patience is required.

Have I already told you not to resubmit applications? ^^; Just checking.

Thanks for your patience, and we hope to have this backlog cleared soon.

Questions for the Senior Staff / About the 6 Applications rule..
« on: November 14, 2004, 03:44:00 PM »
We find six to be a good number, and plan to stick to it. If you wish to have previously pending applications deleted, in order to free yourself to apply for, say, a recently removed series? you can contact the category staffer to which you had previously applied and have some of your applications deleted. Many others have already done this today and yesterday. :huh:

News and Announcements / Contacting Category Staff
« on: November 03, 2004, 10:45:58 AM »
It has come to our attention that some of you are contacting category staff via their personal domains, if you do not get an answer through official channels. Please be aware that this is not cool, is not allowed, and they are NOT obligated to answer you. This is a rude and disrespectful approach, and I do not want to see it happening. If they have not answered your question, there is probably a good reason.

For instance, Nikki is offline and has only limited internet access, and so Momoka and I have taken over the Characters/Items apps email for the time being, and hope to start catching up approvals this week, in Nikki's absence. Since she cannot check her mail, and I have been extra busy this week, nobody has gotten replies in several days... but that is NOT an excuse to start harassing Nikki, OR me, OR Momoka, at our private emails!

Again, staff are free to IGNORE any emails relating to TAFL sent to their personal email addresses. If you wish to contact a staffer, you MUST use the contact form. Thanks for your compliance with this!  :lol:
