News and Announcements / Category-Specific RSS Feeds
« on: May 16, 2006, 12:21:59 PM »
Having tried this out on one of my own fansites, I have added category-specific RSS feeds to the Updates Archives section, allowing visitors to subscribe to only the updates they are interested in! I hope everyone finds this helpful (and I hope to see this at TFL soon, as well! ^^; )

News and Announcements / Recent Crackdown on OT Posts
« on: April 20, 2006, 10:25:49 PM »
Here at TAFL, we are aware that many of you are members of both network boards, and own fanlistings on both networks. (Most of the staff here do so as well.) As such, we've allowed the occasional non-TAFL fanlisting mention to go unpunished, although non-TAFL promotion is technically against our Board Guidelines. These promotions have always been few in number, and have never proven troublesome before.

In recent weeks we've noticed an enormous amount of posting about non-TAFL approval subjects (and rejections thereof, and milestones, and layouts, etc), to the point where they are taking over the bulk of our frequented threads. These posts are being made by a minority of board members, who insist upon doing this, despite our asking them not to.

To those members, please be aware that this has ALWAYS been TAFL policy, but your insistence on continuing to post has made us enforce this rule.

To quote the Board Guidelines:
Quote
2) Individual posts solely promoting non-TAFL fanlistings are inappropriate and will be deleted(with possible warning of posters if it becomes a blatant disregard to the rule).

Once warned, rather than comply with these long-established guidelines, this group of members decided to mention the subjects in question in every thread and every way possible. (They have also harassed newly-approved owners of non-TAFL fanlistings, even emailed them personally, but that's another network.)

As a result of this constant rebellious posting, we have been forced to edit and delete posts, and repeatedly warned posters have been given 24-hour posting suspensions. This is common practice for repeat offenders.

While we realize there is some minor crossover in the realm of Japanese games and anime, this network is dedicated to the anime and manga side of the culture, and we would appreciate that this focus be respected, as these repeated off-topic posts are using our board resources and eating up our CPU usage, email limits and bandwidth, and not TFL's.

We realize also that our board members are tight-knit, and the general feeling of the community here is quite different from TFL; however, that has never prompted me personally to promote a TFL approval here. (Some are painfully unrelated -- Food/Drinks, Sports -- both OT promotions in recent memory.) TFL approvals, unless already cross-listed at this network, or otherwise EXTREMELY relevant, belong at the TFL Forums, and not here. (Our general exception has always been Webmasters, for those who are more known here than there.)

For the bulk of our members, we apologize profusely for the glut of off-topic posts, the occasional rudeness of the posters, and the inconvenience of so many posts being deleted. We hope this fervor will subside in coming weeks, and our boards can return to the normal anime/manga chit-chat we're all used to. Until then, please excuse the mess.  <_<

News and Announcements / Topic/Forum Notifications DELETED
« on: April 10, 2006, 12:55:39 PM »
Since IPB doesn't offer a way to turn off topic/forum notifications on a global basis, I have instead purged that database and will continue to do so on a weekly basis.

The reason for this is that, due to DreamHost's lowered hourly email limits, the board is causing email blocks throughout the rest of the TAFL website. Since I think it's safe to say that all of you would rather see your forms submitted without bouncing than have your board notifications, I will be hand-deleting board notification subscriptions weekly, until we can figure out a way to hack the board to not allow you to make them in the first place.

I apologize for this inconvenience, but we are doing what we must, to ensure that your applications, finished forms and troubles reports are delivered to our staffers without incident. I'm sure this is the lesser of the two evils. ^^; Thank you for your cooperation.

Brand New Fanlistings! / Before posting, PLEASE READ
« on: March 12, 2006, 02:02:10 PM »
While we here at TAFL understand that sometimes a little cross-promotion is helpful and necessary, due to the way things are listed between networks, this forum is still primarily for the promotion of anime and manga subjects, recently finished @ TAFL. Not hockey teams, not food, etc. Edit: And not dinosaurs!

Webmasters that primarily frequent TAFL are an exception to this rule, because (obviously) most of the fans would be over here and not necessarily at TFL, but please, other than webmasters or other obviously-related subjects, keep to the description of this forum:
Quote
If you have a brand new TAFL-approved fanlisting and would like to promote it, please do so here!

I have posted warnings in the threads I found this morning and closed them, but future disregard for this forum will result in topics being removed, not just closed, and the topic starters will be warned. Let's keep it relevant, okay guys?  :bounce:

News and Announcements / Senior Staff Promotions and Absences
« on: February 13, 2006, 01:53:12 PM »
Since I neglected to do this last week, a few staff/senior staff announcements:

Rosemary has been promoted to Senior Staff! Please make her feel welcome as she settles into her new duties.

Johan, resident board monkey, TAFL developer and  fixer-of-code, has changed to his real name and is now known as Jonathan.

Danielle (is talking about herself in her own post) will be taking a sabbatical from TAFL for the next two months, as she I am very overdue for a vacation. Also, Johan Jonathan and I purchased our first home this weekend, so we will be busy with house-buying stuff this month, and moving stuff in March and April. ^^; I would appreciate not being AIMed about TAFL-related stuff; please contact any of the rest of the Senior Staff in my absence. Any emails sent to danielle {at} animefanlistings will be forwarded to another Senior Staffer, or an appropriate staffer.

Thanks guys, and I leave TAFL in five pairs of very capable hands. :P :kitty:

(I'll leave this open, as it's a snuggle-new-SSer thread. ^^ )

Off-Topic Chit-Chat / MP3 Request Threads
« on: January 01, 2006, 03:07:20 PM »
Having discussed it with the Senior Staff, we have decided that our previous announcement on the ban of download links on this board should include MP3s as well. This thread will be closed and any new threads will be deleted. Please request your MP3s somewhere else, and thanks for your understanding.

News and Announcements / Posting Download Links
« on: December 31, 2005, 03:31:56 PM »
This has been posted in the WANTED! forum, but as people are still doing it, I'm making a more general announcement and have added this to our Board Guidelines:

Quote
Posts or topics giving download links to licensed OR unlicensed anime/manga "raws", torrents, etc (as described in this post, as well as download links to MP3s or music files, will be deleted and the posters immediately warned or suspended. Offering downloads, directly or indirectly, puts this network in a bad position legally, and therefore anyone violating this rule will be immediately punished. If you must pass around links, don't do it on this board.

If a link is posted, this website will be listed as the referrer for anyone following that link, which instantly implicates our network as passing around potentially illegal download links. Please understand, while our staff may not care if you download or not, and in fact I personally am not going to judge anyone that does download raws, MP3s, whathaveyou, we still cannot have these links present on this message board. I just warned a regular member of this board, and I will not hesitate to warn or suspend any member, no matter how long-standing, for posting download links, as this really is the sort of thing that can get us sued.

If any member feels they cannot control themselves in this fashion, or finds this otherwise blatantly unfair, feel free to email me personally, danielle {at} animefanlistings [dot] org, and we'll discuss it. Otherwise, just to restate:

Do not post download links to anime or manga raws, fansubs, scanlations, MP3, etc on this board. Period.

News and Announcements / Search/View New Posts BACK
« on: December 09, 2005, 02:01:04 PM »
In an effort to try to find causes for our enormous CPU overage coming from the board, I have turned off the search feature temporarily, which also disables the "View New Posts" feature. This should only last a day, long enough for us to see how it affects our statistics, and then I'll put it back. :hyper:

Sorry for the inconvenience.

WANTED! / Asking for non-licensed downloads
« on: December 08, 2005, 06:39:20 PM »
As has been stated in the past:

Please do not ask for or link to "raws", torrents or other anime (or NON-anime) downloads. This puts TAFL in a bad position legally. Please don't do it!

I've just hidden two topics asking for things falling into this category - if you must seek these out, please do so NOT on this board. Period. If anyone feels this is unfair, or that previous topics have gone without being moderated, please email me or contact me through the board. I don't pretend to be omnipresent, but when I do see them, I do close them/hide them/whatever.

If TAFL were to get sued and have to go away, wouldn't you feel bad if it were all over a download request on our message board? :hyper:

News and Announcements / Board Upgrade, Skin and Posts Lost
« on: December 05, 2005, 11:23:24 PM »
We are finally upgrading this board to a current version of IPB, and the board will be down for a while as the skin is adjusted accordingly.

Unfortunately, due to a glitch in our early updating attempts, several hours of posts were lost from earlier today, 10 am - 5 pm (when the board was shut down.) We have restored data from a backup made this morning, but if you notice a few posts missing, that's why. -_- Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Edit, December 6: Also unfortunately, IPB has changed enough in the umpteen versions between the old board and the new board, that I will pretty much have to reskin the entire thing from scratch. Sadly, I will not have time for this until the weekend, so please bear with the blue, I will fix it as soon as I possibly can.  :hyper:

I'm sure you'd all rather have your board back, blue or not, so here you go.

Technical Support / ATTN: VALIDATING MEMBERS
« on: December 02, 2005, 04:36:52 PM »
This is a Public Service Announcement, tied into our larger network issues as detailed here:
http://board.animefanlistings.org/index.php?showtopic=7871

If you have signed up at the TAFL Message Board between November 28, 2005 and December 12, 2005 (around noonish), you probably DID NOT receive your validation email. Reasons for this are explained in the topic above.

The email problem is now fixed so please sign up again for new membership at this board, as validating members are auto-pruned after a few days.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

News and Announcements / BLACKLISTED, ALL FORMS OFFLINE
« on: November 29, 2005, 06:21:07 PM »
Due to some spammer abuses while I was on vacation these past two weeks, TAFL is now being blacklisted by several email places, including Yahoo and Gmail. If you use these addresses, please keep a close eye on the Updates blog to make sure your fanlistings are okay. We are working to fix the glitch that allowed spammers to abuse one of our forms, but until we do, we have no chance of getting unblacklisted.

This is really horrible and I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. I will post updates as I get news on how this can be fixed. In the mean time, most forum topic notifications are bouncing to me, so if people could please unsubscribe, that's like 50-100 less bounces in my box per day. ><;;;

Edit: All forms at TAFL have been disabled temporarily, until we can resolve the blacklisting issue. (Our own email addresses are bouncing forms sent through the site, and that's a bad thing.) I will be posting updates here and on the updates blog, and staffers have been instructed to hold all updates, to ensure that no forms are lost.

News and Announcements / Goods for Auction/Trade/Sale Forum
« on: November 14, 2005, 11:29:15 PM »
After seeing several posts over the past few weeks by new members, where it is obvious that the only reason the person has joined our boards is to sell their goods, I have set the Goods for Auction/Trade/Sale forum to moderate all new topics.

I apologize for any delay this may cause our true members, but it seems some people have decided we're merely a goods-for-sale board, or a good place to advertise, or a good place to spam, when that is not at all what these boards are about!

The Goods for Auction/Trade/Sale forum exists for the convenience of our *board regulars*, not as an open invitation for anyone wanting to offload merchandise. I hope the new moderation policy makes that clear to any future trolls in the audience. ^_^

I felt I should announce to you guys too, that Lenneth (Momoka) has left staff, due to RL issues, and Kel has agreed to step up in her place. Please make Kel feel welcome, and wish her luck! ^^ :D
