News and Announcements / HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY, TAFL!!
« on: September 24, 2005, 01:16:26 PM »
As indicated on the TAFL index page, September 25th is TAFL's 1st birthday!! (We survived!)

I'd first like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for a year (and more!) of support, patronage and just being so gosh-darned friendly. Quite a few TFL staffers have remarked upon what a pleasant place our boards are (and the network in general, too), and the blame sits squarely on you, our pleasant visitors! Together, we have made this network a great place to list fanlistings, and a great place to make friends. Thank you.

By year five, as we witnessed recently @ TFL, I fully intend to make the birthday celebration stretch out for a month, and have all the fantabulous graphics and goodies they did, but since this is just our first (and since I didn't have nearly enough time to prepare!), I hope a couple of cake pictures will do. ^^ The first is on the index page, of course, and another is coming....  ;)  You'll just have to wait a while to see what it is! :hyper: Also, you might notice one of our "board members" is having a birthday today...  :hyper: (Also, happy birthday MaroonCaludin! ;) )

I'd also like to bring up a need we have, while everyone is celebrating (please don't leave the thread!) As some of you know, TAFL is hosted by DreamHost, and we recommend them highly. (I also host almost all of my personal sites through them, on a larger plan, and have nothing but high praises to sing.) As any DreamHoster knows, every time someone refers you when they sign up for paid services, DreamHost gives a $97 referral bonus. To TAFL, one referral is almost TEN MONTHS of hosting! When donations and referrals are slim, all expenses for TAFL (three domain registrations, hosting, etc) are 100% out of pocket for myself and the Senior Staff, so I can't tell you how great it is that we've received a couple of referrals so far, which covered us until now. (The referral bonus was smaller prior to March.)

Currently, we have received one additional referral since March and our hosting expenses are paid for the next year, assuming nothing changes. HOWEVER: TAFL does have a need, as I mentioned.

Our message board runs on Invision Board, and at the time this site was set up (April 2004), you could download a demo version and patches for free. Invision changed their site last November-ish, and since then, we have been unable to log in at ALL without paying a yearly or lifetime licensing fee. What I'm talking here, of course, is security patches, bug fixes etc. A lifetime license costs $185, but would be well worth it since the boards are so highly-trafficked, and have served our purposes perfectly over the 16 months we've had it installed. Now, while raising $200 is a pretty steep goal, considering everyone here is a poor anime fan (myself included!), since DreamHost also allows you to cash out referral bonuses (for a very small fee), two paid referrals will buy us this lifetime board license.

Let me repeat that: ALL WE NEED is two, just TWO of you, to sign up for hosting through DreamHost, refer TAFL, and we will be able to upgrade our message board... now and FOREVERMORE!

Since these boards are, well, a second home to some of you, this isn't much to ask. (DH plans start at just $9.95 per month!) If you would like to help out TAFL, either click here to sign up, or simply fill in the "Referred by?" blank when signing up with our DH username, animefanlistings. (If you do not see a blank like this, either you clicked on the link above, or you clicked on someone else's link, and the referral ID has already been inputted for you.)

Thanks so much for a year of good times, great fanlistings and general A/M love, and I wish you all the best!

Sincerely,
Danielle (aka teh D-mama)
TAFL Network Owner ^^

News and Announcements / Member AGE LIMITATIONS and Inactive User Prune
« on: September 02, 2005, 12:36:09 PM »
Two announcements, both fairly major:

1. The TAFL Message Board has adopted a 13+ age limit, in compliance with COPPA regulations. Under-13s account for most of the people we've had to suspend lately for spamming, trolling, necro-posting, etc. If you are under 13 but have no warnings, you are welcome to stay.

Members with a past history of problems who are found to be under 13 may be deleted, and required to obtain parental permission in order to re-register.

We apologize if this is inconvenient, and also to any under-13s who have behaved well here; these regulations are not targeting you in particular, but since so many have signed up in the past month, only to be suspended or warned almost IMMEDIATELY, we feel this is the best course of action at this point.

2. Member accounts older than three months with a post count of 0 may be pruned.

We are pruning almost 200 completely inactive members as we speak, and there are some LOVELY usernames becoming available (Bunny, Haruka, Kyo, Mamoru, Michiru, Momiji etc.) If you spot one you want, be the first to post in the name-change thread and it's yours. :strong:

Hosting for Fanlistings / PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING
« on: August 30, 2005, 08:13:16 PM »
As the forum title, Hosting for FANLISTINGS, indicates, this forum is to request hosting for fanlistings ONLY. Any other requests for hosting should be made in the Off-Topic Chit-Chat forum, as they do not fall under the "Fanlisting Management" category.

Thank you. >.<

News and Announcements / Seiyuu -- MOVED!
« on: July 12, 2005, 02:30:01 PM »
The Seiyuu category here at The Anime Fanlistings Network has been dissolved, and the subjects moved into the Actors and Actresses categories at TheFanlistings.org. This move represents our efforts to work more closely with our partners at TFL, and to list subjects in the most appropriate category, on the most appropriate network. In the case of Seiyuu listings, we feel that they are better served by being listed in Actors and Actresses, as that is where other voice actors/actresses are listed, and most Seiyuu listings are already cross-listed between networks.

As this network is focused specifically on Japanese animation and comics, and closely related subjects, we are doing our best to separate out what subjects truly fit this scope, and what subjects (while moderately related) are better served at our partner network. Our goal is to compliment, and not overlap, The Fanlistings Network, and we are working to return subjects not falling under our specific focus back to an appropriate category at TFL. (The move of Seiyuu is also due in part to a vocal minority of visitors and fans, who feel that TAFL is being biased by listing only Japanese voice-actors, and thus we feel it best for the network if the point of contention is removed entirely.)

All existing seiyuu fanlistings are still approved, but now listed by TFL, and any further communication regarding these subjects should be directed to the Actors and Actresses category staffers at The Fanlistings Network.

Edit: Forgot to mention, we also had a category rename:

The Yaoi/Yuri/Hentai category has been renamed as the Adult category, to more broadly capture the spectrum of subjects covered by this category (ie, R-rated graphic violence, etc, in addition to sexual topics.) The previous email addresses for this category will forward to the new ones (adult@, etc) so no mail will be lost.

News and Announcements / New Categories... ONLINE!
« on: June 08, 2005, 01:14:33 PM »
Just an official note that the Items/Locations and Movies/OVAs categories are now online and functional, and all appropriate subjects have been (or are still being, in the case of I/L) crosslisted and/or moved to their new homes. Enjoy!

Items/Locations / Items/Locations - Category Status
« on: May 23, 2005, 02:32:30 AM »
Just a note to say that although the new category is online and functional, I have NOT finished cross-listing and moving appropriate subjects yet, having been totally derailed by a site functionality bug in the display of said subjects.

[All hail Johan, master of fixing TAFL pages that break.]

Anyway, the rest of the subjects should be listed properly tomorrow sometime. :)

News and Announcements / NEW CATEGORIES on the way!
« on: May 10, 2005, 11:53:34 PM »
I am pleased to announce something truly exciting: we will be adding not one but TWO new categories in the very near future:

-- Items/Locations
-- Movies/OVAs

Staffers are being selected and hired at this very moment, and we hope to have the new categories set up and functional within the next week! We hope you find this news as exciting as we do!!  :upset:

Please stay tuned and when they are online and working, we will let you know right here. Thanks for your continued patronage!

News and Announcements / Characters/Items Applications NOW OPEN
« on: March 31, 2005, 01:19:19 AM »
[cross-posted from updates blog]

(Excuse me while I and the new C/I staff go into hiding.)

To help eliminate future C/I app backlog, we have restructured the category to allow for more staff help. Nikki will be the primary applications staffer, assisted by Alison, Kylara and Mella. More staff can be added as need arises. Each staffer will take one portion of applications (much the way our previous backlogs have worked) and process them, stating each time what part of the alphabet and time period they cover. Nikki will be the main "in-box" and will sort and distribute applications to the other three, as well as processing a portion of her own. Staffers will be required to update no LESS than twice a month, and weekly updates will be encouraged.

As this is the first time the application form has been open in nearly two months, the C/I staff will wait one week before processing forms, to give everyone a chance to jump in. ^_^

For anyone who couldn't access the site just now, our server was being rebooted, and so the site was just down for a few minutes. My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. ^^;;

News and Announcements / A Very Special Promotion
« on: January 03, 2005, 11:22:12 PM »
Momoka, Jackie and I are absolutely DELIGHTED to announce the addition of Mella to the Senior Staff. Mella will be our new Board Administrator, and we three feel she will be fantastic in her new position.  :/  :/

We hope that with this addition we can serve your needs better, and run an even tighter ship here at TAFL. Congratulations Mella! :spork:

News and Announcements / The Characters/Items Applications Backlog
« on: November 14, 2004, 04:51:58 PM »
As many of you know, C/I has been backlogged for the better part of two months. We have organized several staffers to start clearing that backlog, the first batch of applications to be sent out today. I wanted to take a moment and explain how this process will be handled, to avoid any confusion on your part.

For starters PLEASE DO NOT RESUBMIT APPLICATIONS. Unless I have confirmed to you personally that we do not have your app, do not resubmit under any circumstances.

Each staffer has been given an alphabetical chunk of subjects to approve or reject. They will post in the updates blog, along with a reminder that their update is incomplete and represents only a small portion of applications, from a specific time frame. (And ask you again to not resubmit!!) As such you will see several applications updates, none of them "complete", but all of them working towards clearing the backlog.

We will start with all apps prior to October 24, 2004, which represents the giant troubles removal. Once those applications are cleared, we will begin on the removal applications. This may take 1-2 weeks, perhaps slightly longer, depending on how fast the 5-6 of us can work. Please do NOT harass any staffer working on these updates, patience is required.

Have I already told you not to resubmit applications? ^^; Just checking.

Thanks for your patience, and we hope to have this backlog cleared soon.

News and Announcements / Contacting Category Staff
« on: November 03, 2004, 10:45:58 AM »
It has come to our attention that some of you are contacting category staff via their personal domains, if you do not get an answer through official channels. Please be aware that this is not cool, is not allowed, and they are NOT obligated to answer you. This is a rude and disrespectful approach, and I do not want to see it happening. If they have not answered your question, there is probably a good reason.

For instance, Nikki is offline and has only limited internet access, and so Momoka and I have taken over the Characters/Items apps email for the time being, and hope to start catching up approvals this week, in Nikki's absence. Since she cannot check her mail, and I have been extra busy this week, nobody has gotten replies in several days... but that is NOT an excuse to start harassing Nikki, OR me, OR Momoka, at our private emails!

Again, staff are free to IGNORE any emails relating to TAFL sent to their personal email addresses. If you wish to contact a staffer, you MUST use the contact form. Thanks for your compliance with this!

News and Announcements / .hack Subjects -- KNOWN DB BUG
« on: October 28, 2004, 03:05:00 PM »
We have only recently become aware that both at TFL and TAFL, we have had a known database bug that did not display .hack subjects, unless you clicked the "Show all subjects in category" link. As a result, we have renamed all .hack subjects to just "hack//whatever" (minus the dot).

All .hack// subjects can now be found under "H", listed as hack// .

I apologize for this error on both networks, and hopefully we can find a workaround so we can eventually list them as they were meant to be listed. In the mean time, please look for them under H. ^^;

News and Announcements / TAFL's Stance on Guestbooks/Auto-Add Scripts
« on: October 07, 2004, 12:34:05 PM »
This is taken from the TAFL Rules page:

Quote
It is up to you whether you update your list manually, or use a specific program that allows people to join and you approve from an admin panel (like phpFanBase or Enthusiast). Forms and scripts that add people as soon as they submit their information are no longer allowed. This includes Megabook and other guestbook programs. Subjects using these types of scripts will be required to switch to one of the above approved methods, or will be removed from the network. This form of auto-add script has been abused, and many a good subject been neglected by lack of effort on the part of the owner, forcing us to enforce this rule strictly.

As we are now over the initial transition period and the network is running smoothly, staffers will now be enforcing this rule. If you use this type of script, your site will be placed on troubles and you will need to switch to another method. As stated above, this is due to continual abuse and neglect by some owners using guestbook scripts. We hope that through this rule, fanlistings will be better taken care of. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter!

Adoption Center / Adoption Rules and Guidelines
« on: September 24, 2004, 05:25:10 PM »
In an attempt to keep some order in this forum, please read over these rules & guidelines and keep them in mind when utilizing this forum.

Rules
1) You may not put a fanlisting that is still on upcoming up for adoption. No staffer will change the ownership details of any upcoming fanlisting. If you don't want a fanlisting that's currently on the upcoming list, then you MUST send in a closed form. Everyone who wants the fanlisting can then apply for it.
2) Please do not use this forum for the adoption of the following: hatelistings, namelistings, fanlistings not approved by AnimeFanlistings.org. If your fl is listed at TheFanlistings.org ONLY (in other words, NOT listed at TAFL), please post your adoption thread in the TheFanlistings.org Adoption Centre, not this one. ^^;

Guidelines
All threads that have received replies but have been inactive for at least two weeks will automatically be closed. Replies indicate that someone was interested, and a lack of thread activity indicates that the adoption is completed. If one of the Senior Staff closes a thread that isn't resolved, then you can always contact us for it to be reopened.

If you have any suggestions on how to make the Adoption forum more orderly and user friendly, please don't hesitate to contact the Senior Staff. Thank you!
