This has always been an interesting topic to me - it's neat to see what genre people typically lean to and their reasons for that. Was talking about this with Jackie earlier and started wondering why we're drawn to the series we're drawn to and if there was any type of trend in that and so here we are, sharing that discussion with everyone else!
So, if you could only pick one genre to read for the rest of time, what genre would you choose? Are you a die-hard shounen fan? A romantic gone for shoujo? Does boys love make your heart skip a beat, or do you prefer girl's love? Perhaps you're more on the mature side and prefer a slice of seinen or josei? How about a good mecha? Are you a mixed salad? Well, the latter is too bad, because you can only pick one. :hug:
Personally, I'm definitely Boy's Love - as much as I love Pirates Shounen, the boy pr0n never lets me down and gives me a bit of everything! :P if you know what I mean.

Aaaah. I'm a mixed salad. But since I can only choose ONE, I would say shounen. The majority of the series that I like are shounen. Despite the ENDLESS BATTLING and RIDICULOUS GODLIKE POWER-UPS and occasionally GRATUITOUS FANSERVICE. *shakes fist* And a really good shounen series will either surpass those faults or avoid them altogether. *hugs FMA as an example of of a good shounen manga avoiding MAJOR PITFALLS*

I think I do enjoy a good shoujo too much for my own good and fhsjfhsf all the pink- and fluffyness is what's doing me in, but then again, when I think of NANA and what it does to me every month.. I'm not sure if I could deal with only the angst that shoujo comes with, LOL. So if I had to choose one genre to read for the rest of my life.. I'd definitely pick Shounen too. *snugs Jackieness* I just love my super heroes, all of them.
..also, not like I can't get my fair-share of romance out of Shounen either.

Mhh, very difficut, but to be sincere I must choose Boy's Love. They have all that I really need (but I also love shojo and shonen a lot t_t)

Argh, argh tough question since I do love me a good dose of fighting manga. But if I had to pick one genre I would probably go with Josei. I prefer the more mature storylines and the fact that I might not always get a happy ending, but the characters won't make me want to beat them silly like they tend to do in shoujo and shounen. It's too bad it isn't a more popular category!
But omg so hard because I think I really like most genres equally, with the exception of Boy's/Girl's Love. :P

For me is shoujo, absolutely. I'm all out for the fluff, the sparkles, the pink, the angst and the happy endings. So I keep coming back to shoujo over and over.
Although during the last years, I've taken a like for shounen as well...

I'm a salad xDD! I love all genres really, but if I really had to choose one genre it would also be Boy's Love :whistle: it's a genre that I've realized never bores me and idk I've become a sucker for all that fluff and angst.
and of course the hotness :hug:

I'm mostly into the psychological shounen series- Kino's Journey, Death Note, Wolf's Rain, Liar Game-esque stuff. But of course, I'd never turn down a good BL ;3

Mixed salad here xDDD I like nearly everything - shoujo, shounen, BL, yuri, hentai, seinen, jousei... -w- everything is fine by me ^^;
but if I have to choose... BL, yeah :whistle: :hug: x3

Hey Carolyn, welcome back! I just wanted to point out that Kino no Tabi, Wolf's Rain and Liar Game are or were all serialized in Seinen magazines - which is usually the genre you will find most of those types of psychological-type series. Some of them are really good! *is also a big Seinen fan*

I think I'm totally fond mostrly for shounen even if I like some mecha titles too! There are only few shoujo exceptions!Xp

Another mix here~ So hard to decide, but if I'd have to choose one.. then it'd probably be shounen for me too :3 I love the raburabu in shoujo, but like Sarah said, who says shounen can't have romance? :whistle:

Thanks Shalott-san, it's great to be back! And oh, thanks for letting me know! I'm awful with genre names ^__^;; But yeah, definitely Seinen then- I think I've gotten over the whole blood-bath/school drama scene (although my bookshelf says otherwise /whistles)

Guess I'm mixed aswel. I pretty much enjoy everything as long as it has a story I enjoy and can understand. I've enjoyed shounen, shoujo, boys love, girls love, mecha, action, anything really. But the thing I am most crazy about is anything with a little bit of fantasy in it, which is quite common on manga-land :) Dragons, fairies, rubbery pirates, magic, all that shiznit, I lurvs it<3

Kinda of a toss up, but I think I have more favourite shonen series versus shoujo. :heart:

If I have to choose, I think everybody would already know that I'm Boyslove addict... and right after that come shounen or seinen!

I'm most definitely a shounen person. Almost all of the series I love and am into are shounen, but I also love a bit of shoujo here and there too. :wub:

I expect I shall have to be seinen - since if I have to pick one manga genre for the rest of my life, I shall have to go where my favorites (Sanctuary & Crying Freeman) are.
Do love me some shoujo and BL, though.

LOL first time I see this thread.
Pfft, I can't possibly choose one. I'd read anything that falls in my hands, to be honest. And in every genre I've read there's stuff I've adored and other stuff I haven't (or downright loathed). My favourite series ever is a shounen (lol FMA), but it's not your usual shounen at all - and most shounen have ended up disappointing me in one way or another (except One Piece). I love to read shoujo (I think I read more shoujo than anything lately), but it's really hit-or-miss in terms of my personal enjoyment. I adore josei to death, I wish I could read more of that. And seinen is awesome, too. Sorry but none of the BL I've read has really gripped me Mecha is not my style, but I've liked some (not enough to get obsessed tho).
TL;DR. I really can't choose, for me is more about particular series~ I usually stick with certain authors too.

Shoujo, because everything is all about the fluff and the OTP's/relationships. EVERYTHING (apparantly). Interesting tidbit though, is the fact that whilst the majority of the series I like are shoujo, some of my top favourites are shounen, hahaha.

In terms of what genre I am.. My real life is Josei, and my dreams are BL.
As for what genre I'd watch only for the rest of my life... I refuuuuuse to answer. :heart: I know it's a total cop out, but I need my mix of horror, drama, slapstick comedy, angst, magic, and robots! I'd rather battle whatever evil genie is forcing me to choose only one genre. T_T

I'm torn between BL and seinen manga even though a lot of my favourite manga include shounen.
I will have to say....wow this is hard. I'll choose BL because I'm addicted to that stuff <3
