Adoption Center / Adopting out ALL fanlistings
« on: January 31, 2012, 11:52:55 AM »
Hi everyone, long time no see... for those who remember . I am leaving the webdesign community because I just got married and med school is busy, so I need to adopt out all my fanlistings and close all websites. Please apply because I would simply close them since it is easier and many of the old owners also aren't here anymore, but I want the members list to stay with whoever takes over. Some of these have been with me for close to 8 years. So here is a list, which isn't quite complete yet. The sites are down right now because of an exploit problem but should be back up within a few days. Some of my listings I'm not sure when they closed since I didn't receive any emails but I will send members lists to all those new owners.

If you don't apply I will close the listings. Co-owners and previous owners will be contacted. I am giving until MARCH 15, 2012 for all of you who want to apply. Please send in your name, email, website address, and reason why you think you love the subject.

The crossed out names are the ones that I am sure about and have already adopted out. The others please feel free to apply!

Fanlistings Chit-Chat / One Wish Granted

For me it would be Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece. He's my favorite character of all time, and no one can beat him =D even more than any Kenshin character out there, and I'm such a Kenshin fan

Thanks guys,

That really helps. I just need to clear that up.

Dear Senior Staffers,

I would like to address this issue once more, because I think it might have a place here at TAFL. Sometimes I wish things were put into perspective instead of perhaps so black and white.

I'm not arguing here, I mean you are the boss, but perhaps some things I've noticed over some rules, and I wish there were more conditions applied to them since these rules have such meaningful consequences.

The Three Strike Rule
This rule is probably one of the best rules that the TAFL has, but I would like to point out something. I think it may overlook some things. Let's say for an example a person has run a fanlisting for over 5 years. Was put on troubles the first year, then probably on the 3rd year, and then now on the 5th. Automatically, they would be removed via the three strike rule. I think the three strike rule was first put in place because of the fact that over time people just stop updating. Now, this is great for that. But when it's something like this- I just don't see the point. Anything can go wrong, and having three mistakes over a period of 5 years is just really not that great in determining removal. I would say perhaps put a rule such as "three strike rule" within a period of 1 or 2 years. This would make things fairer and put things a little more lenient. I mean at this rate, all old fanlisting owners WILL be removed eventually!

The Three Strike Rule Reapplication
I've brought this up already once, but I really want to bring it up once more. I can understand that the previous owner cannot reapply for the old fanlisting that they were previously approved for. But, in my case- my fanlisting that I was removed for, I took over after it was open/closed FOUR different times from TAFL after which I applied because I was simply TIRED of rejoining. I tried to adopt this fanlisting to no avail, and then was removed via three strikes. I tried to reapply- because at the time I had a lot of family issues going on and the FL was on fanbase and overlooked. Now, I wish there was a period of time in which I could wait and then reapply. I mean maybe 3 months after removal? 4 months? So would we rather not have the fanlisting at all, than have one that is there. There are some fanlisting which people like to JOIN but not own, and we know this well from our "please build this fanlisting" thread.

Either which way, I've been owning fanlistings since around 2003 and I think these rules scare me the most since I know one day that I will just simply be removed because I've had a fanlisting for a certain length of time simply because of maybe 3 mistakes within a large span of YEARS. That's all I have to say.

Thanks Staffers for all your time and support. I barely even talk anymore, but I'm here.

Series / Three Strikes Rules
« on: June 23, 2008, 02:33:38 AM »
Hi,

My series was removed because of the three strikes rule (Shaman King: Funbari No Uta). I'm not here to argue about it, or to ask for anything, but I really want to apply back for this fanlisting and get it back under my ownership. I really love this little series, it's only about five chapters long and in the history of TAFL it has been opened and closed 4 times and I was just so sick and tired of joining it over and over again I decided to apply for it and keep it for long. You know that thread "please make this fanlisting" that was me FOUR times because I was sick and tired of waiting for it to be added again.

I wouldn't mind if people would apply and build this listing, really I wouldn't. But the truth is no one really does, and no one has applied for it. I love it a lot and want to take it back, I got it removed because of some various reasons, somehow this fanlisting always suffers the rule because of the fact that its under fanbase and on another server and I forget (yes it's wrong again), I plan to move it once I switch hosts actually, but haven't had the time since I spent 4 months out of the country and currently I don't have a home since my house is demolished. So truthfully, it's been pretty tough these last couple of months and I want to just request to get this listing put back under my care despite the three strike rule or let me reapply since I want a listing that no one really "wants" and I tried even adopting this out a couple times and no one seems to want it but me =/ and all those people who join who I asked AS WELL and they didn't want to own it either. It's one of those "join" but not "own" listings it seems.

First of all, Arashi I love you, but I don't think it's right on what you say with cowardice. I agree with Larissa that it is a human emotion. Also, when you are expressing your feelings it's easier for you to remain hidden behind something to say something, because there were ALWAYS be the consequences, but as much as I know about the boards, it's not really anonymous anyways since boards log in IP addresses and unless Anonymous posted under a different computer than you normally use, we already know who he/she is anyways, and maybe he/she knows this as well. When I posted that topic about the codes rule, it really took a lot out of me to post it, because I was sort of scared my opinions of it might reflect later applications and make people think I was lazy to make new codes and just darn argumentative, so I wrote it, erased it, wrote it, erased it, until I finally posted it.

I like Haley's comment "I understand that some people can push out a fanlisting faster than a mom can have a C-section" which was hilarious but true. I think a limit of 6 is quite adequete. And, from experience, I've had more than 6 pending at a time, because of late updates etc., so I think that there are some leniencies as well. Also, I don't think that TAFL is as elitist as TFL is personally. At least we have different types of owners in each genre, not like all the Batman fanlistings are owned by one person and no one else gets approved.

As for me, I could never be a staffer because 1) it takes too much work for me, and I admire these people who do it 2) reinstatement of number 1, and also because I have enough experience with running networks that I know all these little things to it. When I run my boards, I listen to suggestions, but I am by no way obligated to take on any suggestions, and I do feel sorry for the staffers who get things said behind their backs. I know on my boards, I get things said like 'Shaza is so mean, because she doesn't let us post 400x400 avatars" and so forth. And it really hurts my feelings, and I feel so bad that I just feel like just closing it down. I mean TAFL was a great idea, but its just a listing place, a very good and popular listing place which we all want to be listed on of course ^_^, but a listing place none the less. You have to follow their rules to get listed. So ya, I like how everyone said everything here, and I myself feel a bit elitist attitude here on the boards, but its only because there is a natural difference between staffers and members, that is why they are different. You give hours to trouble check etc, to get that status, so if you want to give, you get. (I don't give = I don't get :D).

But ya, I like everyone's comments and I don't side with anything. But, if I might say something, I think maybe more than 1/2 of the people having problems with these rules have the problem with the codes rule, which btw, still makes no sense to me on obligation (maybe its cause most people use FLINX and other things to categorize their listings anyways). I only wish you could re-think it. Also someone mentioned that it was an old rule, and we care about it now? Its because I, for one, didn't totally understand the implications of it in the way it was worded the first time it was written. It is a rule that makes no sense to me simply by logistics of obligating something that isn't an obligation already lol. In my case, I try to abide by it, but I still don't agree. I also wish that my topic wasn't locked before I could reply, since I really felt hurt by the last line from the staffer in that post, it seemed like a blackmail to me. Please give us a chance to speak replies before locking topics. I thought I might as well just say that, since I wasn't able to in that post. And from it, I really didn't feel the urge to say any of my other opinions either, which is why I understand this post anonymously. But, who am I to say.

General Questions and Discussion / The Codes Rule
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:17:41 AM »
I know that this codes rule, with the one that says that the code should reflect the subject and not just say "fan" is a pretty old one. Well, I mean, it was made sort of recently but not too recently. But I would like to just address some questions about it, because I know I'm not the only one who finds it quite troublesome, and a bit too strict in my case.

First of all, codes aren't even required by TAFL rules. I looked everywhere and there is no mention that codes are required for a fanlisting. Then, fanlisting owners go out of their way to make codes because generally, people like to use codes, but now with this new rule it's really troublesome since there are restrictions on how you can design them.

I know that it is because the codes should not be ambiguous or what not, but I think it's kind of unfair to crowd a code with so much of small text that it looks more like a text link then a pretty button that people who join like to use. Furthermore, I can understand if you asked us to have at least ONE code of each size that abided by this rule, but to ask that of all the codes I think is really weird, because many of my fanlistings, per say, are old and I made like hundreds of codes ages ago. And every time I go on troubles I have to IMMEDIATELY (for fear of removal and only a few days allowed to do it) change every single one or remove ALL of them, leaving users with only one or two codes until I have more time.

Even if it is ambiguous, many, and I mean MANY, like maybe 80% of the people who use these codes ALREADY have the codes divided into sections, like "series", "relationships" etc. so it really isn't that ambiguous to them. Plus, rules of TAFL state that we must link back TAFL, but the codes really have nothing to do with TAFL itself per say, it has to do with our fan listings, and how our codes stand out etc. I know that all fan listing owners don't want their codes to be ambiguous and we in different ways try to make that possible. But it is really hard, especially when you have a series such as "Howl's Moving Castle" to fit all that on one code, even the smallest of fonts are hard to read as it is, and fitting that all in there is really hard. Even with abbreviation it can be considered just as ambigious as before.

Generally, I think that rule should be looked over a bit, and perhaps asked about because codes aren't even required of fan listings for one thing, for a second thing, users aren't required to use them, and we can't remove them from the listing if they don't post a code up, so it seems sort of ridiculous to put a restriction on something that isn't even required, and we as owners of the fan listings do of our own free will. It just sort of makes it harder for us, and annoys the hell out of us, especially when we are in the middle of exams or something and suddenly a bunch of our fan listings are on the verge of removal because of something we aren't even required to have on our fan listings. It just has become a trend to keep codes, but it seems weird to put a rule on something that isn't even a rule to have in the first place. That's like saying that the url for a fan listing should mention the title of the subject to be less ambiguous for the user who links back to it, even though there is no rule of urls anywhere in the main rules. If we even had one "proper" code, that would allow the user who joins to choose for themselves what is ambiguous or not, since it really is their choice in the first place to put a code up. People who join fan listings like to have unique codes to represent the subject they are joining for of course, so it should be left up to them.

Anyways, sorry for bringing this up ;_; I'm always the weirdo who has to speak my mind. If this gets shot through totally I suppose I'll understand but I think it should be given at least some thought to. I mean the rule came up out of nowhere for me at least, since many of my fan listings were approved BEFORE that rule was formed, and I think that there should be at least some consideration for that, since I know that in TFL and stuff, some certain rules that were invented after certain fan listings were approved did not hold true to those old fan listings that were established before the rule was stated.

My two cents ^_^  Gomen for being such a ... weirdo... it's really been bugging me for a while. It would be great if there were some changes made to this, and as for me, if not, I love my subjects too much to let them die because of a rule like this. But overall, I really think it's a bit ... you know...

Mine, all of them are of equal importance to me except the first one. Luffy just beats everything out of the water lol, and Im sure Marie would agree :spork:. I will never post them on my collective simply because they have great owners right now lol, so I think they are in great hands.

One Piece: Monkey D. Luffy
Full Metal Alchemist: Edward Elric
One Piece: Series
Naruto: Sasuke
Bleach: Byakuya
Death Note: Series
Inu Yasha: Sesshomaru

Notice. All Shonen lol. Im a firm believer in bad luck though, every series which I own a fansite of, I have had bad luck with FL's for. lol.

Questions for the Senior Staff / Same Layout/Content for 2 fanlistings?
« on: August 24, 2006, 11:37:44 PM »
Okay, so I was recently approved for a fanlisting thats a movie, and also I was approved for that same movie's opening theme (main theme song)

SO hence, I want to make one layout for both fanlistings, and put them on the same pages, I will of course have DIFFERENT stats for each, note that there are two differnet fanlitisngs there, two different lists, two different join forms/edit forms and the works, and different affiliates. So is this okay? Im checking cause the URL will be the same and the layout the same, but they will be managed as different listings. I know they are allowed for relationships/rivalries since those are fairly close, but Im wondering what the case would be for this.
