General Questions and Discussion / Cancelled & ReOpened Fanlistings
« on: February 18, 2008, 08:34:18 PM »
Kylara's covered most everything :]

Basically, TAFL doesn't own the members lists, and we don't have access to anyone's members lists.  We can't force website owners to give us the lists, to email their members about no longer being approved, or to remove the TAFL links from their sites if they are no longer approved.

There is no network policy on using member lists from previous FLs.  As Kylara said, you can contact (NICELY is best) the previous owner to inquire about using their members lists, but they are not required to assist you or respond to you.  Speaking for myself, not as a TAFL staffer, I would not use an old members list unless it was very clear that the FL had been abandoned and was no longer updating - AND I would try to contact the owner first.  Some people prefer to email members of abandoned FLs instead of adding them directly.  Also, Kylara has posted good suggestions on promoting new FLs to get more members :]

Keeping track of the Updates blog is probably the best way to be notified of removed, moved, and newly added fanlistings.  (We have RSS feeds for the Updates blog and the individual categories, too, for those who like using syndicated feeds.)  Again, since we don't have access to members lists, we would not have any way of notifying members of the FLs being removed from the network or moved.  (And even if we did have the members lists, we would not be able to email thousands of members every day to notify them of removed FLs.)

No, you can't demand that the owner close their fanlisting.  You can ask, but in my opinion, that would be rude.  The previous owners still have the right to keep their fanlistings open if they want, even after those fanlistings have been removed from the network.  TAFL also can't make the owner remove the fanlisting or the TAFL link from their sites.  You can always ask, politely, if you can use their members list, but they don't have to give their members lists to you, and I would only ask that if it's clear the sites have been abandoned (for example, they haven't been updated for half a year).

Hi Freya,
I changed your email on October 21 and sent you an email confirming the change.  Please check your junk mail box to see if my reply wasn't filed there. ^_^

Questions for the Senior Staff / Downtime = Rejection?
« on: October 16, 2007, 12:23:19 PM »
Since it's such a drastic measure to ask for a month extension in which none of your fanlistings are placed on troubles, the Senior Staff feel that you should be focused on getting your current fanlistings back up, not applying for new fanlistings.  This is particularly true if you are applying for multiple fanlistings (rather than, say, one big wishlist fanlisting) when your current fanlistings are down.  So, in cases like this, where owners are applying for multiple fanlistings, even though their current FLs have a month's extension due to downtime, staffers can decline to approve them for new fanlistings.

Questions for the Senior Staff / Yaoi Fanart

If it were to be approved, it would belong in Fanstuff :)  I'm not sure if the category approves general subjects like that, so you should check the category rules first, and if it's unclear, then ask the applications staffer. :)

Hi Korey, they would be approveable, but only separately/individually, not as a series >.<

Questions for the Senior Staff / Warn?
« on: August 01, 2007, 11:06:55 AM »
"Warn" is used by senior staff to warn members of behavior problems on the board.  Members can only see their own personal Warn statuses, not anyone else's.  0% means you have no Warnings.  It's rarely used, so it's not a concern for most members.   http://board.animefanlistings.org/index.php?act=boardrules discusses the Warn system in more detail. :/

Movies/OVAs / Question(s)
« on: June 17, 2007, 02:22:59 PM »
If the anime movie is created in Japan in the anime style, then you should apply for it at TAFL.  Anime movies can be based on non-Japanese media, such as the Howl's Moving Castle and Tales of Earthsea movies. :bounce:

TV anime series and OVA series are separate, and you have to apply to crosslist :bounce:

News and Announcements / Audio Drama + Books Announcement
« on: September 10, 2006, 03:42:26 PM »
The Fanlistings Network has created a new subcategory called “Audio Dramas” within the Albums category. All anime/manga audio drama CDs and cassette tapes should be applied for at thefanlistings.org in the Albums category.

Also, all novels and non-manga books based on anime and manga series should be applied for at TFL.org in the Literature category.

Although novels and drama CDs are based on anime/manga, they are not directly related to them, much the same way that fanlistings for Live Action dramas and Live Action movies based on anime/manga series belong at TFL.org in the TV Series and Movies categories.

Questions for the Senior Staff / Just curious
« on: August 25, 2006, 06:37:11 PM »
TAFL and TFL are related networks, but they are run separately with a different staff and different rules/regulations.  There are currently no plans at TAFL to adopt TFL's "reminder" policy :)
