General Questions and Discussion / A quick codes question!
« on: January 05, 2008, 03:59:27 PM »
Okay, just wanted to ask a quick codes-related question! I own the fanlisting for the music of Naruto: Shippuuden. If I made codes with images only from Shippuuden (for those who don't know, Shippuuden is the second series in the Naruto franchise) and said "music of" or something else music-related, would that be okay? Or would I have to specify "Shippuuden Music"?

Thanks in advance!

Music & Songs / Question: Remixed songs
« on: August 14, 2007, 11:54:54 PM »
Okay, quick question here- when you're applying for a song fanlisting, does that include remixes? For example, there's an ending of Pokemon that is later remixed and the ending is updated, but it's basically the same song. Would I have to apply for both, or would the first version include the second one as well?

Thanks in advance!

General Questions and Discussion / Naming Issues
« on: July 17, 2007, 02:20:55 AM »
Okay, this question has sort of been eating at me for a while. There's tons of inconsistencies not only between each different category when it comes to Death Note fanlistings, but even in the individual categories! So I figured that, rather than posting about it in each category, I'd make a general post here.

Death Note's kind of a complicated series, what with the multiple aliases and romanized vs english spelling of things, and there's a lot of inconsistencies regarding that. Take the following three cases for example:

Real name - Main Alias - Romanized Main Alias - Other Aliases - How they are listed in the Characters category
Lawliet, L - L - Eru - Ryuuzaki, Ryuga Hideki - L
Keehl, Mihael - Mello - Mero - M - Keehl, Mihael/Mero (Mello)
River, Nate - Near - Nia - N - River, Nate/Nia (Near)
Yagami Light - Yagami Light - Yagami Raito - L, 2nd L, Kira - Yagami Raito (Light)
Jeevas, Mail - Matt - Matto - n/a - Matt

How would those be listed? They're all so different and there are so many versions. Right now, some categories list Near as River, Nate / Nia (Near) while also listing L as just L, and Yagami Light as Yagami Raito (Light). It seems like other aliases aren't the problem, but listing their full names, main aliases and romanized main aliases is scattered. Also, when it comes to relationships and rivalries, there are infinite combinations of those four types of names.

Another issue is with the order of aliases and real names. For example:

Real name - Main Alias
Bullook, Halle - Lidner, Halle
River, Nate - Near

That's how they're set up, but when they're listed, Halle's alias comes before her real name, whereas Near's real name comes before his alias.

Not only all of that, but there's an issue with spoilers. It can be argued that listing Mello and Near's real names are sort of spoilers to those who haven't seen past Episode 29, or even just causing confusion because they're never addressed as such and those names are only mentioned very briefly.

Anyways, I thought I'd bring this issue up cause it's been eating away at me a bit. I'm not sure how any of the staff want to sync it with other series, but it seems like some order is needed when it comes to listing them. I hope this made sense! It's late, but I think all my facts are straight ^__^;; If this should be moved to Senior Staff or some other forum, I apologize, but this seemed like a logical place to put it. Thanks in advance! I'd be more than happy to help if needed.

Technical Support / "Staff Alumni" Error
« on: June 16, 2007, 10:12:49 PM »
Just for your information, whenever there is a staffer alumni online, all of the text in the "whose online" box that isn't a link turns pink (the commas and "show detailed by.."). Thought I'd let you know >.<

Questions for the Senior Staff / Unfair Troubles Scenario
« on: May 23, 2007, 08:20:20 AM »
I think there's an unfair scenario in which a fanlisting is troubled, and I'd like to see it changed.

I adopted two fanlistings out to two people and did everything according to the book- approved them, let them build it, sent them their members list, waited for it to be uploaded and then changed the page of the current fanlisting to "This fanlisting has moved!", included the new URL and the date an update form was sent.

Yet today, I received two troubles emails for them for not being a fanlisting. How is that fair? Clearly I sent an update form if it says that on the site, and either it was lost or not processed. Why should I be punished for that? Even if it's "technically" my fault for the forms not getting through, there's a link to the new fanlisting on the old site! I find it totally and undoubtedly unfair that I'm in trouble when the user will have absolutely no trouble joining the fanlisting. And now I have two huge blackmarks on my record because of it.

I think that, at the very most, the old owner should get a warning that their update form was not received. Because clearly, we thought we sent one.

Questions for the Senior Staff / The new rules
« on: March 07, 2007, 09:49:45 PM »
So I just saw the new rules, and I was wondering about the first one. It says that the images on the layout must accurately reflect the subject they are approved for. What does this mean about fanart? I personally love to use fanart for some of my  layouts because it's so gorgeous, and sometimes they reflect situations that haven't happened (for instance, two people kissing that haven't kissed in the anime/manga). Will this get me on troubles? And by layouts, I mean non-fanstuff approved subjects, like the relationship between two people.

Please let me know, because I just finished a fanart layout and I don't want to code it if I'll just get on troubles for it. Thanks!

Questions for the Senior Staff / Application Limit?
« on: January 30, 2007, 04:24:52 PM »
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but I'd like to propose an increase in the limit on applications. At first I didn't know where 6 came from, but then I realized that that was the limit at TFL, and was carried over. But, if anime/manga fanlistings are so big that they warranted their own network, shouldn't the limit be increased as well? When you factor in that upcomings count as well, even once you've submitted finished forms, the limit is a real pain, especially if you apply to less popular and updated categories.

I'm not saying that 20 per category is reasonable, but maybe 10? I don't know, just my thoughts. It's frusterating to miss fanlistings because you have 3 that are upcoming but you've submitted finished forms for, 2 that are upcoming and 1 other pending application.

Questions for the Senior Staff / False Advertising?
« on: January 04, 2007, 11:40:11 AM »
So, I was wondering what happens when someone whose fanlisting was removed from troubles and is open for application is continuing to approve members and claim that their fanlisting is TAFL-approved? I've run into that lately with a few fanlistings I was approved for and I'm noticing that I'm not getting any members but they still update daily. Should I contact them, or does TAFL do that?

Thanks in advance!
