Title: Last movie you watched?
Post by: Estefania on June 14, 2009, 06:38:22 AM
I noticed this thread over at TFL forums and I thought maybe people would be interested in seeing it around here =) I'm a bit of a movie-addict so I'm watching and re-watching stuff all the time. I even keep a record of the films I watch for the first time during the year~ This is my list for 2009 so far ❤ (http://\"http://hamsterfactor.livejournal.com/220216.html\") It's the second year I do it, the first one was for 2008 (http://\"http://hamsterfactor.livejournal.com/163335.html\") =D

So just comment here with the last movie(s) you watched and maybe comment on it a bit if you want? Or perhaps rec it/warn other people about it?

Last new (for me) movie I watched was Bolt. Took me a while, heh. I was actually pretty good, but then again ever since Lasseter is also working his magic on Disney movies they've been getting better again. I adored Meet the Robinsons and he also helped with that one.

Also, I'm basically rewatching Tom Hanks' career for the nth time. It happens when I see some new film of his at the cinema (even if Angels & Demons wasn't awful enough to be good, unlike The Da Vinci Code). Yeah I'm a big fan — I swear some day this will be considered cool! Anyway, yesterday I watched Charlie Wilson's War, which is awesome and greatly underrated, IMO. Amy Adams is also terribly cute in it~ ugh OTP

The last two movies I saw in theaters were Dragonball:Evolution and Star Trek~ Before that? Sweeney Todd XD (I don't go to movies often).  DB:E is a movie everyone should see, because it's so epically bad it's awesome XD; Goku-dude can't act to save his life, but he's adorable so I forgive him =/  And everyone needs to see and love on Grandpa Gohahn.

And ST, well... XD; Let's just say there were plenty of "I DON'T WANT TO SHIP IT but this is so adorable how can I not D:" moments.  I really thing my reaction to it ("ARGH ADORABLE") wasn't the reaction most people were expecting. >>

The most recent movie I watched was Stephen King's IT (about 12 times), because I tend to put movies on for background noise when I don't feel like listening to music, and the movie I watch only changes about once a month. x3

I just saw The Taking of Peham 1 2 3 on Friday with a friend from work (first time I've seen a movie at a theater in forever).  It was SO good.

I'm hoping to see The Proposal with her on the 24th.

I really wanted to see the new Fast and Furious movie and Fighting, but neither is playing anymore.  Now I'm anxiously awaiting their dvd releases.

Fast and Furious is due end of next month, so you don't have to wait too much longer. ;)

As for me, I went and finally saw Up! and The Hangover, because I'm just a sucker for Ed Helms and Jeffrey Tambor. :/

Angels & Demons, in which Tom Hanks totally sucked -again- *sigh* but at least this one was way better than the Da Vinci Code :/ (I also love the A&D novel more than the other one lol;)

And, last Thursday I gave Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian a try, it was funny ;)

I should go to watch Terminator today *whistles*

Drag me to hell. (pardon the language) A bit cheezy at times, but i thought it was fantastic. One of the best horror movies i have ever seen. The ending was awesome. If you like horror movies, check this one out.

And i watched Independence day on tv today. Love that movie. ;)

I'm glad to hear good things about Star Trek, i'll have to see that soon.

I want to see this one! The last movies I saw on the theater were Land of the Lost and Up  ;)

I've been watching movies most of the weekend since I have to catch up on some work :/ Transformers, Hellboy II, Aladdin (I hadn't watched it in years and I still knew all the lines XD) to name a few  Right now I'm rewatching The Dark Knight.

The last movie I saw in a theater was Star Trek and the last movie I watched on TV was Juno this morning. I have to say, I am not a fan of the latter.... I really, really don't like Ellen Page. ;)

To his credit, he's obviously not even trying and he's still better than 95% of the cast. Ian McKellen was alright in Da Vinci and Ewan McGregor did ok after greatly sucking in his last three movies or so, but the rest are complete crap. Who cares though, I mean, these movies are a joke. Just like the books.

Frankly, while I agree A&D was a better movie, I enjoyed Da Vinci much more. This new one is just a really mediocre film, but Da Vinci was so ridiculously awful in every sense, it's endlessly amusing for me haha. Also, I found A&D had the most boring plot tweest in ever =/
the last movie I watched on TV was Juno this morning. I have to say, I am not a fan of the latter.... I really, really don't like Ellen Page. :/
Haha, thank you for not liking Juno xD In my case it's got nothing to do with Ellen Page (although I did find the title character really annoying), but god, such an overrated movie. A pity too, because Jason Reitman also directed Thank You for Smoking and I love that one to death.

Anyway, saw The Heartbreak Kid today which was, er, watchable (I'm not a Farrelly person).  Though I watched it for Michelle Monaghan anyway, I have a huge girlcrush on her ❤ Eagle Eye wasn't worth it, though. It killed a bit of my soul forever D= And then saw Punchline again, which is so so so so awesome and too ahead of its time for anyone to notice =P

Not many films I want to see at the cinema right now. I can't watch the new Terminator because I can't stomach Bale and Up (godIwanttoseethis) won't be out until August in Spain (and October in the UK!). I would like to go watch Land of the Lost and The Hangover, perhaps.

You're right, Thank You for Smoking is a great movie. I forced my husband to watch it on DVD and he didn't think he would like it - but he totally did. :P

I started watching The Pursuit of Happyness tonight but had to leave off in the middle. I've seen it before though, and I have to say it is probably the most underrated of all Will Smith's movies.

I watched Doubt again over the weekend and wow, that movie never ceases to impress me. Meryl Streep continues to blow me away with the sheer power of her presence and the way she commands the screen. It's just ... so riveting to see her and Philip Seymour Hoffman together. Definitely recommended watch for everyone, if you haven't seen it yet. The entire cast is fantastic and it's beautifully directed.

And~ I'm on my daily watch of Dark Knight  :/ :P I have this disease, where I have to watch it everyday, you see, lulz

And, since you've helped me with this, The Count of Montecristo(2002) .

I think I'm gonna start a list of stuff I watch as well lol; (since it's such a neat idea Estefania) because they randomly ask me if I have watched this or that and sometimes... I'm just not sure   . Gotta blame it on poor Spanish title translations most of the time xD

I agree, Doubt is great and has been greatly ignored for the most part. I mean, I liked it better than most Best Film nominations at the Oscars — although, let's admit it, the Oscars are dumb. To be honest I'm not a big Meryl Streep fan, but she was really good in this. Same goes for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. Some amazing acting.

And let's see. I watched Observe and Report, The Hangover and Sunshine Cleaning at the cinema and actually I enjoyed all of them in one way or another. Observe and Report was a weird one, kind of a really dark comedy with a confusing tone at times, I must say. But I love Seth Rogen and he was good, so hey. The Hangover was better than I expected and had some classy lines ("I keep forgetting about the goddamn tiger!"), plus Ed Helms ❤ And I found Sunshine Cleaning to be pretty good, Emily Blunt and Amy Adams were awesome and so pretty and it had some Little Miss Sunshine feeling, which is always good (well, it had the same producers).

Speaking of which, some awesome cinema down town was showing Little Miss Sunshine, so of course we had to go and see it. I don't care if it's a bit overhyped, there's no such thing as watching LMS too many times. Also, Steve Carell with a beard ❤

At home I watched He's Just Not That Into You, which I hated quite a bit and made me want to kill all the characters in it with a brick. Except for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston, surprisingly. And also Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story which was fairly alright although too long IMO.

And yesterday, I rewatched Fight Club for the 78342842394th time. Ten years after, this is still the coolest film ever made. Fact. Also, Edward Norton ❤

Word. There's no such thing as too much Little Miss Sunshine - that movie just had so much going for it even if Abigail Breslin creeps me out now. One of the few soundtracks I purchased too, LOL.

It's a great experience, even if you're not a fan of horror. ;) Drag Me to Hell is proof that Raimi should stay in his original genre, instead of it just being a hobby.

Rewatching Pinapple Express because I'm just a sucker for Rogen and it's got so many small nuances to appreciate with each reviewing. Supposed to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen tomorrow, but after reading Roger Ebert's scathing review (http://\"http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090623/REVIEWS/906239997\"), that's definitely not happening. :notworthy: I wish there was a theater closer to me that was playing Moon.

Saw Blood: The Last Vampire (2009) and... meh. :kitty: I was expecting a bit more, due to the hype and the people involved. From the trailers, it seemed a promising adaptation, but didn't really pack the punch it seemed to hint at.

Oppositely, I spent almost all of yesterday (and probably today) watching the Director's Cut of Watchmen and aljfkldjaklj I am a happy fangirl. Thank you for that extra 24 minutes of AWESOME, Mr. Snyder. You successfully satisfied my one gripe about the theatrical run. *cheers!*

In the cinema~ Ice Age 3 with my nephew, which was... horrid. And boring and made no sense. Jesus Christ what a waste of money (at least we didn't pay for 3D). I think it was even worse than Ice Age 2, and that's saying something. Why didn't they stop at the first one, why? Then Half-Blood Prince which was quite alright (saying it from the perspective of someone who hasn't read past the 5th book). Not nearly enough Luna, though. And then Mad, Bad & Sad, a nice tiny British film with had the privilege of having the wonderful Andrea Riseborough in the cast ❤

Also watched Apollo 13 at the British Film Institute (as part of their One Giant Leap season), which I love to death and back. Seriously, one of my favourite movies ever (it couldn't even be screwed up by Ron Howard!). And yesterday I watched I Love You, Man again at some small cinema. Believe it or not, it's my favourite 2009 movie so far.

Then I watched The Seeker: The Dark is Rising at home (because of Chris Eccleston) and it was complete crap imo :pirate:

LOL, agreed. >>; Even Simon Pegg couldn't save that movie and I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

Speaking of horrible movies, I partook of my weekly "viewing movies via Comcast that I had yet to see" hobby and watched Lakeview Terrace. I then proceeded to beat my head against a wall and asked myself "Why?"

(I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't read past the 5th book. :o) I had to ask my mother (who read everything) for info.
It was the last movie I watched in the cinemas and I thought it was alright (I know that if I'd read the book I would definitely compare the depth though).
Then I watched The Seeker: The Dark is Rising at home (because of Chris Eccleston) and it was complete crap imo
Ditto. O: Saw it a couple of weeks ago on TV.
I think I enjoyed the book much better *if I recall anything*.

Aside that: I want to buy Ponyo Ponyo on DVD and watch it again. XD

Last night I re-watched The Other Boleyn Girl. I have loved that movie and it's probably the 4th time I watch it (at least at home).
Unfortunately the cinema doesn't seem that promising in this season, at least where I live :o

There's currently a Terry Gilliam season at the BFI and since I love him lots (except for that piece of crap that was The Brothers Grimm), we went to see a couple of films on the same day. We watched Jabberwocky first (which I hadn't seen before) which was quite bizarre and loads of fun. And then Brazil, which is my favourite film by him and one of my favourite films overall (if not my top favourite). I try to always catch it when they're showing it in some cinema =) Damn, Jonathan Pryce is fiiiiiine.

And yesterday we went to see Moon, which I've wanted to go see for a while. I really liked it too, it was very well done although you could tell they didn't have that much money to make it. I'm not usually too fond of Sam Rockwell, but he was pretty good in this. Also, I didn't know what the film was actually about before seeing it xD Nice surprise.

Went to the cinema to see Adam today. It was alright, quite pretty. I wasn't a big fan of Rose Byrne in Danny Boyle's Sunshine, but I really liked her here.

And yesterday we saw Abre los Ojos (Open your Eyes in English) at the BFI. They're running a Penélope Cruz season, so we took advantage and watched it (I don't like her at all, but she doesn't hurt the awesomeness of this film) xD If any of you have seen Vanilla Sky, Abre los Ojos is actually the original Spanish film it was remade from. And it's pretty amazing, one of my favourite Spanish movies. And it's got Fele Martínez~ ❤ (btw watch Tesis if you want a good thriller)

I watched The Dark Knight for the first time the other day and it was so long, and boring with such an unnecessarily intricate plot line that I fell asleep several times.   I don't know, maybe I slept through the good parts, but I have to say I was very let down and disappointed by it.

LOL, I actually liked TDK lots more than Batman Begins. I was really surprised by how much I liked it, really, since I can't stand Bale's face to save my life and I don't care about the Joker one bit. I believe it was all Aaron Eckhart/Harvey Dent's doing. He made the movie for me and got the girl haha in your face Batman xD

I'm seeing Terry Gilliam in the flesh at the BFI today (jksdf;jhfd omg) so I watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas yesterday. Which was extremely trippy and fun. I've been meaning to see [REC] for ages. Still haven't had the chance. :( Quarantine was released in the U.S. last year. I actually went to see that movie in theaters, though some of the scenes were literally too dark to enjoy... So, Saturday, I went and saw Ponyo because it's Miyazaki and yeah: very, very good, very adorable and very much a classic Studio Ghibli tale. I was somewhat surprised by the plot, but it was still so amazingly crafted that even the cynic in me could believe in it. I also really appreciate Miyazaki's firm "draw-everything-by-hand" belief and the movie is worth it alone for the introduction scene. Freaking gorgeous. Also: Liam Neeson, kthnx. :P

And yesterday, like a good student who has finals due Monday (and work too!), I finally went and saw District 9 - I was hesitant, since I'm not big on sci-fi, but holy shit, probably one of (if not the best) movie I've seen this year. Absolutely gorgeous gorgeous directing. Now I really wish they'd been able to push ahead with the rumored Halo movie, because apparently Neil would have directed that one too. Peter Jackson sure knows how to pick them. Er... so yes, if I was plentifully impressed and want to see it again then you guys should definitely check it out - though fair warning, it is much more graphic then I was expecting. Which isn't bad at all. *loves the gore*

Saw District 9 tonight and I was amazed. I left feeling like the events in the movie were more real to me than what was going on in the world - as if I could Google "Johannesburg" and see that mothership hanging in the sky. The implied social commentary was amazing and brought tears to my eyes, and the special effects were great, too. I don't think I have ever described a sci-fi click as "beautiful" before but it definitely comes to mind when thinking about the amazing performances and directing.

Ironically, after everything I read saying there was so much gore, I was expecting a pretty damn bloody film... but I ended up being a little underwhelmed by the violence. Although certain scenes made me squeal and cringe.

I definitely second the recommendation to go see this movie!

Funny People~! ❤ I was terribly excited about watching it and man I loved it to bits. It's probably not for everyone and I think the publicity is quite misleading (it's really more a funny drama than an actual comedy), but yeah, loved it~ GOD DO I LOVE SETH ROGEN djjsdf;jhdf ❤

Last movie was Inglourious Basterds and I don't know why on earth I went to that movie ^_^ I KNEW movies like that aren't for me. There was so much gore in the beginning that I had a hard time concentrating on the rest of the movie. I was constantly scared that there would be more sudden gore LOL. It's sure is an amazing movie, and totally Tarantino, but it just isn't made for people who faint when they see peoples scalps being cut off *like me omfg I died.*

Watched a bunch of new ones (for me anyway) lately =)

First Kung Fu Panda which was, er, alright. Nothing to write home about and the secondary characters were too underdeveloped, but it wasn't that bad. Fights were too long and Angelina Jolie can't voice an animated movie to save her life, though. We had just rewatched Monsters VS Aliens earlier and that one's much better IMHO (and puts Seth Rogen's skillz to better use).

Then I watched Taxi Driver for the first time! Shameful, I know. I'm trying to fill my cinematographic knowledge gaps lately, lol. It was pretty damn awesome and ahead of its time, I think. Also, kind of hilarious. Shocking to see how Robert De Niro used to be actually hot.

Yesterday we went to see Julie & Julia, which fortunately was free. I would have been pissed if I had paid for it. Quite meh overall (too long!) and Meryl Streep was as annoying as a person can possibly get. God, that accent/voice/whatever dhjgj;jhfdsk. Amy Adams was cute though.

And finally Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel, a really nice original little UK film which has been way too underrated IMO. Chris O'Dowd was awesome in it and, seriously, there should be more movies about time travel! This one proved it can be done with very little money. A really nice surprise.

I finally went to see District 9 and I have to say I was pretty disappointed =( I don't know, it all seemed like a lost opportunity to me. The really interesting part of the film (the racism parallels, etc) were forgotten after a bit and all that was left was over-the-top action - pretty much like any other film. I mean, it was well done and the ending was good, but before that there was just too much explotions and lol mecha footage. I was really looking forward to it and I was quite let down =/

Also watched Adventureland which I also didn't like that much. Nothing terribly wrong with it, maybe it's just that I couldn't connect with any of the characters. Oh well.

Hmm, well, it is very much an action/sci-fi adventure, but the plot is prevalent throughout. The graphic violence, for me, was there to emphasize what a wtf!? situation Wickus found himself in and for me, his character development was pretty pronounced. Knowing you though - you probably would find it quite squirm!inducing, since I know you don't like gore. :D I would definitely give it a chance, but if you didn't like Inglorious Basterds, it's probably not for you.

And over the weekend, I finally got a chance to see Synedoche, NY, which was just brilliant, in a really, really satirical and sometimes odd way. There were a couple segments I had to rewatch, but wow. I was very impressed. Then again, Mr. Hoffman just kinda blows me away in everything, so. xD;

The point being with gore, I can't watch if Mr. Pitt decides slowly, very slowly, to cut a swastika in someone's head, while said person is very much awake and starts screaming his longues out. The whole combination or cutting in someone's head and the screaming pretty much ruins it for me. But with most actionmovies, I have no problem whatsoever. I didn't like it when the guy in prison in Watchman got his arms cut off, but for some reason, it was different, cuz I still managed to look at it... I guess it depends on the movie or something xD? Or the date? Sometimes I like gore, sometimes I don't xD? Ohwell, it's not like I have a choice, Boyfriend is dragging me to District 9 next month, haha

I don't know, for me it felt like the greater plot stopped for action sequences. Plus, they got back to the same place too many times (seriously wth) and I always think of that as SCRIPT FAIL. Oh well, it wasn't bad anyway, I was just disappointed.

As for me, I watched Away We Go... which was alright. Maggie Gyllenhaal was hilarious. Not much more to say. At least it wasn't Revolutionary Road, which had a super boring direction and DiCaprio and Winslet playing douches I didn't care about, lol.

Also, tried to watch Year One. "Tried" being the key word here. Oh god I had to stop the thing 30 minutes in due to extreme awfulness. How a film that bad could be made is beyond me. I can't decide which was worse, this one or Night at the Museum 2. Or Ice Age 3, lmao.

Looking forward to: Love Happens (IDC HOW BAD THIS IS OMG AARON ECKHART ❤) and sdhgj;jkshfdk The Invention of Lying (RICKYYY~).

Last movie I watched in theaters was 500 Days of Summer. Loved it. It was funny, thoughtful, romantic (but never sappy), and surprisingly had a feel-good ending, even though you knew what's going to happen - as in they tell you right from the start. It's one of those movies where you really want to watch it the whole way through for the journey, not to find out what happens. The main protagonist really carried the movie, I thought he was hilarious and could sympathize with him, and I didn't really care the for the actor before this. It also has a nice indie soundtrack where all the bands are too cool for me to know.

Recommendation: Watch it on DVD/online. Great film, but there's nothing visually spectacular about it that requires you to see it on a giant screen.

Meet the Robinsons. I think that must have one of my favorite movie endings ever! It just comes together so nicely and Rob Thomas's "Little Wonders" playing in the background makes me tear up.

God I love Meet the Robinsons. It must be my favourite non-Pixar computer animated movie, along with Horton Hears a Who!

Last time I went to the movies I saw Creation, which I thought was quite good and beautifully done. It had an awesome cast too with Paul Bettany, the missus Jennifer Connelly, Jeremy Northam and Benedict Cumberbatch. Really nice.

Then my flatmate and I decided to punish ourselves with some awful awful movies, lol. I barely made it through The Proposal (I like romantic comedies, but I like them when they're not completely stupid and have Ryan Reynolds in them, ew) and 17 Again (we watched this FOR THE LULZ, but ended up quite appalled by the whole thing wtf). But The Boat that Rocked proved to be too much for me and I fell asleep half-way through lmao. So boring, good lord poor Chris O'Dowd!

Oh well, then I watched Clerks II and really enjoyed it, so that's something.

Tomorrow is Invention of Lying day~! Jjdf;jkdsh ❤ Toy Story 3D also comes out, so we may just have to see both =3

In the end I watched both The Invention of Lying and Toy Story 3D on the same day~ The first one was even better than what I expected, really intelligent and really blasphemous and really corny (in a good way!) which is a rare combination. Ricky was amazing, though I may be a little bit biased lmao. But of course, he couldn't just do a comedy, this had such a high concept and was so refreshing to see amongst all the crappy romcoms lately =/ Also, amazing cameos! Don't want to spoil it, but OMG the police officer sdfk;jhdf ❤

And Toy Story will never not be completely amazing. The only thing that's better is Toy Story 2, which I'm dying to see on the big screen again!

Looking forward to Love Happens this Friday. I'm aware of the high chance this will be awful, BUT AARON ECKHART SO WHO CARES. Also, I like Jennifer Aniston, sue me.

I watched Persepolis, animated movie based on the homonym autobiographical graphic novel of Marjane Satrapi. It's... god, amazing, very very good, I totally recommend it. Actually I wand to watch this on the cinemas but they wouldn't bring it derp so when I heard it was on TV I rushed to watch it.

I don't know how many know about the movie, but Paranormal Activity is a must-see if you're into Horror at all. I drove down to Baltimore to see it since Harrisburg didn't have enough votes, orz and wow. I seriously am not a fan of the "Blair Witch"-esque directing style, because I feel it's way overused now, but this movie is amazing. I haven't actually been scared in a theater in ... man, I don't even remember, but this had me jumping. There was also a woman in my theater who ran out crying, which is the best indicator of a great horror movie, in my opinion.

So, yes! It gets a wide release, do to the demand, on the 16th - Friday of this week! - and you should all go see and be terrified mystified by its awesome.

Watched Love Happens in the end. It was a really decent romantic film, pretty much what you'd expect from this genre. It had AWESOMELY-DRESSED AARON ECKHART, who played a widower with a crapload of issues and had chemistry with Jen Aniston - so I was satisfied. PLENTY.

Looking forward to seeing Parnassus now. Although I'm a bit wary about it, to be honest.

I'm looking forward to this coming out over here in New Zealand. I think it looks somewhat creepy hehe.

Finally saw Horten Hears a Who. Loved the animation used - the furry Whos and how Whotown had no straight lines at all. It was quite funny too, though I found the whole 'destroy the clover! tie him up! cage him!' to be a bit disturbing considering it was a kids film haha.

I went to see Sherlock Holmes, which wasn't as terrible as I expected it to be (and that of course annoyed me), but still LOL who were these people? Not that I have anything against loosely based adaptations, but I could barely recognize hobo!Holmes. If at least the plot had been good... but it wasn't (wow, the bad guy was such FAIL). AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON ALTER!WATSON. Man, what the hell, how much I hated him =( The power balance was all wrong, too.

Well, at least it wasn't Star Trek 2009.

And yesterday I watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which was surprisingly enjoyable! I loved the random quirkiness of the film, and Bill Hader was genius as the main character. Also, good job with the message (if you're a nerd, don't hide it!). Really nice watch.

LOL, Estee, Holmes is a hobo in the books, and Watson is his brawny comrade. That's how Doyle wrote them and what this version is adapted from. It's the TV shows and other mini-movies that made people perceive Watson as the portly-no-clue sidekick. Oh man I had high expectations for the Lovely Bones, now I don't think I even want to watch it -__-

I watched Leap Year, it was the typical unoriginal romance comedy of a girl falling in love with a guy after spending a few days with him. It wasn't like I had high hopes of this movie being good but throughout I couldn't help but feel very disappointed at how many times this type of plot had been used. It had some cute moments and I'll admit Matthew Goode looked real fine xD but this movie was way too predictable *sigh*

I need to watch a romance with a tragic ending o_O

Accidental Husband, Perfect Getaway and The Proposal. I loved all the them, but the former two were awesometastic! I may be biased, because I love Uma and Jeffery and them two together == orgasmic!Fangirling. Also, I love Milla, so the Perfect Getaway would have been good regardless, but I really, REALLY loved it - it was suspenseful without being cheesy, it had just the right amount of romance (the less romance the better for me!) and it threw me. Me, Queen of Horror/Suspense/Thriller, able to see everything three hundred miles away. MEEEE! :winkiss:

I think it really depends. I know a few people who enjoyed it. Its just if you read the book, it seems highly unlikely that you would. (they butchered the book pretty much.) Who knows though? Movies are different for everyone.   :winkiss:

Oh, haha. I've read every Sherlock Holmes book there is  I couldn't disagree more. Holmes is eccentric, yes, but he also gentleman-looking and dignified... not a dirty hobo (except for those times when he cosplays... which btw in this movie was quite hilarious in a bad way). He's cool, he's calm, he's always in control... which he wasn't in this movie. He isn't a pathetic, needy excuse for a detective lmao. I understand the need to make him an action hero, but not at the expense of his other character traits. Also I loved how the drugs were completely gone (although it could have explained the hoboness a bit). And I'm not a big RDJ fan, but I think he didn't do such a bad job, considering what he was given.

And Watson was just painful. I agree TV and movies overall make a bad job at portraying him (lol who said he was short and fat?), but this was just as bad, in a different way. Watson is Holmes' best friend and the movie didn't give that feel. He was violent, cruel with Holmes (LOL PUNCHING HIM WHAT) and had a problem with his authority - which is just unheard of. Basically, he was in charge most of the time (or at least he held power over Holmes) and that's simply ridiculous. He should respect and idolise him. As I said the power balance was all wrong. Although it doesn't surprise me, it looks like plain good ol' friendship doesn't sell anymore like Kirk & Spock in Star Trek, ugh

Of course the Irene Adler thing was laughable, but I actually liked Rachel McAdams and her pretty clothes.

As for the direction... I liked Lock, Stock... and Snatch, but Guy Ritchie is just repeating himself now. It was cool, but I didn't think it was cool enough anyway. Also I felt like the script was treating me like an idiot with so many explanations and flashbacks to stuff that just obviously happened. That annoyed me, the movie would be better with half an hour less of fights and redundancy.

But as I said, I was expecting to hate it completely and I didn't, so. I just think they should have named it "Some Hobo Detective and this Bitchy Doctor punch people and maybe solve a case while at it". Sorry about the TL;DR, I don't mind so many people omgloving the movie (it wasn't awful by any means), but saying that it's a faithful adaptation... well.

TL;DR! Anyway. I watched Up in the Air yesterday and I loved it (haha, that hasn't happened to me in a while). George Clooney was amazing, I'm hoping he'll win every award there is this year. I haven't seen all the "awards-worthy" movies for this year's Oscars yet, but I'm Team Up in the Air for the time being ❤ Glad to see Jason Reitman is at his best again after the FAIL that was Juno.

I don't mind TL;DR at all (which is probably obvious), but it would not be all-together responsible of me to post everything I want to say here, LOL. I don't want to be the first person to reach a character limit in replies, lulz. Saying that, I clearly disagree quite a bit, especially where the characters themselves are concerned. While I will admit the story itself is somewhat reaching as far as fitting squarely into the universe Doyle's novels and stories created, the characters are written and depicted so close to the source material that you can basically mirror them off of one-another. Before I ramble on and get a talking to from Wife, I do love discussing things like this, but without posting spoilers, LOL, this is obviously not the best place to do so. I'll move it over to LJ, for lack of a better forum, of communication - I've had enough people make various arguments against the movie that I can justify it to myself, haha.

To get back on topic, I watched Sherlock Holmes again today, unsurprisingly enough, and will be partaking of Parnassus tomorrow, before they remove it from theaters.

I have recently watched Sherlock Holmes too. I'm not a fan of the original characters/story etc, but I found the movie interesting and funny 8so who cares if it has almost nothing to do with the original concept :winkiss:).
Last night I watched Decameron Pie which is one of the worst films I have ever watched. I hate the fact that they took a masterpiece of my country's literature and turned it into something that awful.
I'm really looking forward Nine instead, because I have always been a fan of Fellini (and this film is largery inspired by 8½) and I really want to see how this movie is (except for the fact that Daniel Day-Lewis can't be compared to Marcello Mastroianni )

Haha, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, because I don't think I'll ever accept those two people as Holmes & Watson (especially Watson). And I'm not the first Doyle reader who thinks the characters in the movie are completely deformed from the originals, either. But anyway, my other problem is that I didn't think the film was really good at all. If it had been, I would have gladly enjoyed it even though, well, those are not Holmes & Watson. In any case, I'm not even such a big fan of the books.

By the way, I wouldn't expect much from Parnassus =/ I thought it was somewhat half-cooked. I don't know if Heath Ledger's death had anything to do with the final product being so... incongruent, but it was certainly underwhelming. He was quite good in it, though (excellent accent!)

And I watched The Time Traveler's Wife... I don't know why. Jesus, what an empty (and slightly disturbing in its wrongness) movie.

Amores Perros, which is again, for Film Studies. I watched it last year but given the time inbetween, we had to watch it again to actually study it, haha. It's actually fairly good. :flower:

Iron-Man 2! And because of that awesome film and no I did NOT see the first one -- another of life's regrets I am a new convert to the sexiness that is Robert Downey Jr. And to the Pepperony!love. Gwyneth makes a great Pepper, yes. I love their chemistry together. They have a very tangible sexual tension you just want to get a knife and slice through.

I absolutely LOVED the story. Makes you think about the economics and politics of world peace -- it's not just a pretty concept we throw around in the question and answer portions of local beauty pageants -- and about national security and the army and how men and women are willing to give up their lives for the sake of peace. (I had a cousin who died in Afghanistan, so.)

People are saying the first one's better, so I better get that on DVD. Watching again with some of my friends tomorrow. Can't wait. :flower:

Saw Alice in Wonderland a few days ago... not sure if I liked it, or hated it. Any way, as usual Helena Bonham Carter was lovey and people tell me there are movie where Johnny Depp plays normal characters but I haven't seen any. And I don't think What's Eating Gilbert Grape counts. :flower:

Tony Stark is AMAZING indeed! Only RDJ can play his sexy badass egotistical brilliant self. :drools: Because of the film, I'm an Iron Man convert. I have to admit I don't know Rhodey in the comics -- I'm only getting to know them now through the fics, hehe. The only Marvel series I truly followed were The X-Men (I still do!) and Spider-Man.

I have to see that movie still! My friends fell in love with Ms. Bonham Carter (and with the entire production -- it wasn't a child's fairy tale any longer, that's for sure). And lol at Johnny Depp playing normal characters. That's true, I am yet to encounter him as just a regular guy in films.

I liked the second one better =D I've seen it at the IMAX twice now and I really can't wait for the DVD~

That was the last movie I've seen in cinemas. At home, I watched Fantastic Four (to continue with the superhero trend) which was quite horrid and unfunny. And I tried to see Valentine's Day and failed. Ugh =/

Last movies seen recently (over at HBO): The Hulk (starring Edward Norton), Forgetting Sarah Marshall (written by and starring HIMYM's Jason Segel), and Can't Hardly Wait (90's teen flick, which incidentally also had Jason Segel as an extra).

Alice in Wonderland, the Tim Burton one, for the first time. I have a particular hatred for Burton generally (for his films, really - he just has a tendancy to do something particularly morbid and then take it too far), and though my issues with his films cropped up a couple of times, in general, it wasn't too bad. I'd watch it again.

I have it on Blu-Ray (since my brother loves Alice; still, it makes the costumes look pretty, they are quite nice, I have to admit)! :) Yeah, it's set much later. It's not the typical young girl going; she goes when she's about nineteen for the second time, so it's all in all a bit darker.

Yep, David Slade directed the third one (I ended up studying one of his films for my Film Studies class, so I could recognise some of his style in Eclipse). Considering this was very much about the love triangle and you had to really get what the characters were thinking, he did really well.

Well, my film of the year is (for now, although it doesn't seem likely that any other will come close to it) Toy Story 3 - it was such an amazing beautiful piece of cinema ♥ I'm in the minority that didn't like Inception that much (acting was good though), but at least it was better than Predators (which I also saw in the cinema recently, for some reason wtf).

I need to go watch TS3 a few times more, I've just seen it 3 times =/ Also waiting for Despicable Me and Dinner for Schmucks (MY CARELL FIX!). And probably Scott Pilgrim when it comes out.

Nolan drove us insane with Inception, didn't he? And yet we followed him willingly into the labyrinth of dreams, wanting more, seeking answers we will never get.  ;) I hope it wins an Academy Award or something. (Or maybe not, with the "Oscar curse" and all!)

Oh honey, I know NOTHING will come close to Inception. :) But thanks for the assurance! In truth I haven't seen Salt yet. But I'm a bit surprised you found it boring, when all of my friends have been raving about it.  X_X And yes, Nolan is amazing.
Inception. In a second attempt since tickets were sold out the first time -_- but it was so worth it!!! :D SUCH AN AMAZING MOVIE.  -_- I hadn't seen such a good film in a long time, it felt so good <3333 the story was so epic that I didn't have time to ship anyone... |: /world ends
I know what you mean, Yamila! ^.^ Some of my favorite authors on FF.net (who write for other fandoms) are now writing for inception. And I realize that I don't want to read fics about that work; the film itself is completely satisfying, that no fan work can measure up to it. But if I were to ship anyone there, I suppose I would be partial to Arthur/Ariadne. Hehehe.

Haha I saw that one recently too. Surprisingly entertaining. ;)
Salt is a terrible, terrible bore of a movie, so I think you're safe in saying it won't come close to touching Inception.
I just watched Salt earlier today with my parents, and I would have to agree with you, Marie. Which is quite sad for me, since I love Angelina Jolie and I have such high expectations for this film.  :D There was NO climax, no cathartic moment, no brilliant plot twist. Most of the hype they built up on the trailers they showed were resolved in the first forty-five minutes. 0_o;;; The stunts were great, and the shots were amazing, but the actors were wasted on a ho-hum story. I wonder if the original was better...? (Since the entire script was re-written for Jolie; the original Salt featured a male agent.)

SCOTT MOTHER FREAKIN PILGRIM VS THE WORLD!! >
Oh my gosh, I am so giddy from watching this movie. It was soooo good!! They did such a good job! They kept a lot of the good jokes and they added a bunch more. The characters were all really well casted, really well maintained and everything from the fight scenes to the CGI was brilliant!!

Go see it. Right now. It's in theaters. It's even better if you've read the comics first :D

Would it be awful of me to say I sincerely don't care about humans in these movies? :D you know my feelings but, lol I'm finding myself thinking more and more their sole purpose is to mark the 'human-scale' when standing next to Transformers orz...That said, we can talk about it tomorrow after I go watch it too! <3

Well, it's a movie about giant robots. The fights will be good if nothing else. Hopefully the story is half-decent.

The last movie I saw in theatres was Green Lantern. The last movie is saw at home was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen after having watched it again tonight. I plan on going to see Dark of the Moon on Friday.

It's the best of the series, easily. It still has its insert-eye-roll-here moments, but it's definitely much more engaging (and tolerable).

Kicking back with Star Wars: Episode IV. And can I just say that I can't wait until next Friday, when Horrible Bosses comes out? Cause I can't. I'm so stoked, I could dance.

There's something I was particularly and extremely annoyed around the end of the movie but I don't want to spoil it for anyone (will have to post on LJ) In all honestly I'm glad the new chick in town didn't seem to try-so-hard I guess it's partly what made the whole Sam/GF/humans involved moments less irking than before as well  still don't get why the parents are so obnoxious tho  :x
