Technical Support / RSS Feed part 2
« on: February 26, 2007, 11:18:20 AM »
We have switched it back to excerpts for the moment, to decide what to do -- not everyone wants their LJ friends list flooded with full TAFL updates. We'll let you know soon. (In the mean time, please wait! )

That would be acceptable, yes. (Just don't get carried away, ok?)

News and Announcements / New Senior Staffer!
« on: February 24, 2007, 02:40:15 PM »
I am pleased to announce that Mura has been elevated to Senior Staff, replacing Jackie's vacancy. She will be working closely with Jonathan on the new TAFL backend, as well as taking on some Senior-Staffer-type duties! Please make her feel welcome! ^^;

Questions for the Senior Staff / Application Limit?
« on: February 14, 2007, 12:37:30 PM »
Six was the limit at TFL, and is considered a reasonable limit for each category, based on the time it takes to make a fanlisting and how many applications serial applicants like to send in. I have no intention of raising this limit without SERIOUS consultation with the category staff, and as we have many people who regularly abuse the system, I don't think they'll be eager to raise limits.

If this changes, it will be announced site-wide, but until then, we're sticking with six. Thanks for your question. :D

Questions for the Senior Staff / Member emails
« on: January 31, 2007, 01:05:30 PM »
Naturally if they're using an obviously fake (or not OWNED BY THEM) email address, OF COURSE you can delete them. Not only does it have to be a working address, it has to be THEIR working address. Spammers or silly people, yes you can delete entries with invalid email entries.

Questions for the Senior Staff / Name change on fanlistings?
« on: January 26, 2007, 09:28:19 PM »
Yes, just leave a note in the Change Email form, in the name field -- put your current ownership name, and then in parentheses, say "Please change my name to ____", something like that. (Rosemary, your input?)

Maybe this got looked over, but my username wasn't changed. Can I get it changed to Lia, please? Thanks.

Done, Lia.

News and Announcements / Exciting New Affiliation with Collectica.com!
« on: January 24, 2007, 01:40:28 PM »
TAFL is excited to announce their affiliation with Collectica, a community site for collectors of all kinds (including anime/manga!) Think Flickr, with some Craigslist thrown in: create albums for your collections, upload pictures for free, and list things for sale via their classified system! They are working to build their community, and would like to in turn support TAFL, by giving us an incentive for each member we send their way. (This will go a long way toward our eventual goal of getting a dedicated server for the site! No more email worries!!)

From Collectica's About page:
Quote
Collectica is a platform for collectors. We exist to help collectors unite under the roofs of their own homes. Our in depth news and event coverage offers collectors a fresh perspective on the happenings of the industry. Our forums and wiki offer a way for collectors to contribute and help each other build their collections and knowledge. Contests and prizes seem to find their way to a lot of people too.

I tried the Collectica service yesterday and found it to be extremely cool. I'm looking forward to transferring my entire shitajiki collection to Collectica, and I firmly believe that the people behind Collectica want to give back to the communities that help build their own. It's a rare thing to have a site approach our network and ask first how they can help us, and this is an attitude we want to encourage!

Please visit Collectica and give their services a try! (Let's overrun them with anime collectors! *o* )

Questions for the Senior Staff / Category staff applications
« on: January 24, 2007, 01:50:01 AM »
We have no plans to purge the staff applicant database at this time, or any time in the future. Both new and old applicants are considered, and we choose the best person for the job, regardless of how new or old their application is.

If you feel dissatisfied with yours, or wish to take this up further, please contact me (danielle {at} animefanlistings.org) directly -- I'm afraid there are no Anonymous entries in our staff app database, so I'm unable to investigate your application further without more information. ^^;;

It's a nice idea in principle, but unfortunately, as with all things, I can see it getting way out of hand.

We never officially allowed non-TAFL promotion here, but we mostly ignored the posts because people were restrained and mature about it. Then, suddenly, a large crowd of members decided to spray off-network and non-A/M TFL promotions all over every thread we had, and we had to get out the Big Sticks and enforce our posting guidelines.

These posting guidelines are here not because we're gigantic meanies, but because this board consumes an amazing amount of CPU usage and bandwidth, and we simply can't give any more of that away to non-TAFL matters. TFL has more room to maneuver with their board (and off-network thread), I'm sure, because they are already hosting on their own server and pay for their own usage, etc. We, at the moment, do *NOT*, and therefore must share our resources with the other children as long as we remain on shared hosting. (Which, by the way, we are trying to do as it is significantly cheaper.)

I will bring this issue up at the next Senior Staff meeting for discussion, but for the time being, please respect the current guidelines and promote TAFL listings only. :/

(Moving this to a more appropriate forum, as I'd like the rest of the Senior Staff to see this.)

Questions for the Senior Staff / False Advertising?
« on: January 04, 2007, 01:19:57 PM »
We do not interact with the removed fanlistings or their owners; unfortunately, they're not exactly under our control, so there's nothing much we can do about them continuing to advertise themselves as TAFL-approved, etc. The best you can do is beef up your affiliates, advertise on the boards and hope they drop off eventually. :\ Sorry we can't help more!

News and Announcements / Senior Staff Resignation
« on: November 28, 2006, 03:35:45 PM »
Jackie has accepted a great new job, to start next week. The unfortunate side effect of this is that, due to her job's requirements, she is resigning from her Senior Staff position. Jackie has been one of the Senior Staff since TAFL's inception, and she will be sorely missed, both by the staff and especially by myself.

At the moment, with Shell's semi-recent promotion, we will not be replacing Jackie's position, but will be redistributing her duties amongst the rest of the Senior Staff.

Please join me, and the Senior Staff, in wishing Jackie the best in her new job. :/

General Questions and Discussion / Wikipedia
« on: November 21, 2006, 01:16:33 PM »
Added slight change to the introductory paragraph:
Quote
Manga from other countries are listed at The Fanlistings Network.
changed to
Quote
Comics and animation from other countries are listed at The Fanlistings Network.
in an effort to reinforce that non-Japanese comics and animation should not be described as anime and manga.
THANK YOU, I totally missed that. (I hate seeing those types of references, drives me crazy.)

I made a few minor changes to the staff structure, to reflect TAFL's hierarchy (which isn't identical to TFL's, actually. ^^; )
