Hi guys! I would like to suggest a new sorting option for the fanlistings listed. I'm not familiar with PHP, so I don't know if this is possible. :P

Sometimes, I would like to know what fanlistings are listed for a particular series. I'd like to know if there's already a fanlisting I could join for character x from series y. Or the relationship between a and b from series c. ;) This 'sort by series' would be an option beside the list by category-alphabetically. I'm sorry if this has been suggested before. And I'm sorry if this is too hard to work out. But I think that this would be a good idea..

Soo..what do you think? :)

It could be a search engine. Or add a "sort by series" link in approved.php. Then when someone selects a series, all fanlistings which are under the series will be displayed. Something like..
Quote
Browsing fanlistings: series name

Characters

A
B
C

Episodes[/b]
01
02

Relationships[/b]
A & B
B & C
A & C

I'm not very familiar with the backend or anything, but I think this usually eats lots of server resources ^^; but yes it's a neat idea. =P

I'm really not all that familiar with server stuff, everything I know I learned from other people but I'm pretty sure a search engine idea has been brought up over at TFL, and it was decided that it would eat way too much server power. TAFL doesn't use up as much resources as TFL, but it still uses a lot, so ... I'm not quite sure.

Development of a new backend is in progress (but going very slow, shame on me   ). Changes will be coming to the browse pages. Additions, such as the ones suggested above, should be easier to implement.

Can't wait for the new look of the browse pages, Jonathan! But as everyone has said, would something like I suggested use up server space? =/

It all depends on how the code is written. There are ways to reduce the amount of server resources used. Right now this message board is the largest culprit to server load, and there's not much I can do to optimize this code, so I'll do what I can do the code I can fix (i.e. the rest of the site). Thankfully our host hasn't complained about server load too much yet.  :pirate:

That would be really, really nice.  I've thought of it before for TFL (one page listing all Twilight fanlistings, go figure) but now that I think of it it would be nice here too <33   Of course, there's the new back end to worry about first but I had to comment on the idea :pirate:;

I was going to suggest this at TFL, but it seems that it would be less appropriate since a series could only cover about a quarter of all the categories available. Here, a series could cover up most of the categories.. :pirate:

edit. Just thought about this. If this is implemented, would it affect the updates blog?

So, this is for people who are too lazy to search through the categories and look under the series titles? :pirate: I think that if this ever were to happen, it would be more of a search engine function rather than actually changing how the categories are organized and presented on the main site (which I think is what you are suggesting, ilona...?).  I agree that it would be nice to be able to see all the fanlistings display for a certain series, but I don't think it would make sense to switch from the current category system we have now.  So I don' think it would affect the updates log at all.  More of a bonus feature than a main feature.

(I may have completely misunderstood what you were getting at, though.  I'm a little brain dead... XD)

What I'm suggesting is merely an addition to what we have now. And no, I don't think this is for lazy people. XD Like I said, sometime I want to see the fanlistings for a series in one page. I don't mind if this would be a search engine as well. But not like TFL's search engine which is powered by Google which shows not the fanlistings. Hope that makes sense..
