Questions for the Senior Staff / Concerning Codes Rule

Hi Staffers,

I'm writing cos I have a question (I'm unclear about this) not because of a code warning email I received, but because I was reading the rules (again) and I read the rules before putting up my codes on my fanlistings through code sort, recreating the ones that had FAN written on. Now I'm completely confused.

In the rules it states:

Fanlisting codes must reflect the subject you are approved for.
Your fanlisting's image codes should feature images that accurately reflect the subject you have been approved for. The codes should be clearly marked with the subject you have been approved for. (For example, if you own a series, character or relationship fanlisting, you can not have codes featuring only one character from the series and the word "fan.")

And in the email it states:

Codes must accurately reflect the subject matter. An image and the word
"fan" is not enough. If you are receiving this notice in regards to a
Fanfiction fanlisting, the chances are good that your codes did not
specify the genre you were approved for. With the exception of the (All)
fanlistings, Fanfiction codes need to state the specific genre the
fanlisting covers (Gen, Het, Yaoi, et cetera).

Mine state: Fruits Basket Fanfiction (for my Fruits basket fanfiction fanlisting, as mine is only one approved...even though it's (Gen).
My Fruits Basket Fanfiction: Honda Tohru and Kyou Sohma (Het) fanlisting codes state: Kyou x Tohru Fanfiction because it's the only one approved.
My X/1999 Fanfiction (Gen) fanlisting only states X/1999 Fanfiction, because it's the only one approved.

I DIDNT change these BECAUSE I was unaware of the FANFICTION code rule--even when creating my codes before the code rule came into affect...which I now have to go through 200+ codes changing them for the rules to comply by putting Gen and Het on them...but before I do, I'd like to know which rule is actually correct--or are they both?

Should this rule be clarified in the rules section so people know when they're applying for a FANFICTION fanlisting? It does seem confusing if one says you need more than FAN on if it's not a character and then being emailed a rule someone knew nothing about.

I checked the forums AND the update blog before posting this, nothing was stated about it.

Are links to youtube channels or youtube watch online links allowed to be posted as they're not downloadable?
I'm not sure if this falls under a no-no links so I posted in the off topic chat my info on my AMVs (linkless) found at youtube. And I noted that I wasn't going to put the link to them unless it's ok...

Questions for the Senior Staff / Member emails

Well I know we can't delete people with dead email addresses...I guess that's a little downside to FLs, but what happens when we find members using our own email addresses for signing up?

I went through my fanlistings (changing my own email address and weeding out the dead URLs (unlinking them)) and I found ALOT of people using emails from my (now old) domain.

e.g. sailorvenus fanlistings webmaster moonation webmistress moon (various real names too)
And quite a few others with @moonation.org on the end, so I was wondering....

What do we do when we either find someone updated their information with a FAKE email (e.g. from my own domain) or signed up with an email from my own domain? Can we deny them? I'm unsure about this...so right now, I've left them alone (not deleting them...I just have to put up with bounces when I send emails).

Right now, I've implemented a check email against domain, script on my update and join forms to stop this from happening again. This checks that the username, domain and dns are REAL (basically it stops spammers) ...I HOPE that's allowed as it's not in the FL rules...just says a working email address....

It really doesn't take a genius for someone to do a mouse over to show the "email me" email from sign up and update forms and use that email...IF it's not already in use...

Hi staffers,

I'm just CURIOUS on something, as I know alot of popular comics like Death and Darkchylde are now going manga-style...but with their original creators....HOWEVER, I noticed that the comic Witchblade has now gone manga style (authentic) with a whole new writer and design, but still affiliated with Top Cow (the publisher). So my question is, "mangas" like this, should they put refered to TFL or applied for here? I'm not currently interested in applying for this fanlisting, I was just curious what happens if something like this arises? Also it's being released as an anime...

Well Danielle and Kel, you both make sense and have points...though I'm not arguing--as I said, before I give it serious thought for application; as the more I read the more I totally love the manga/romance!

They do use some Japanese artists, but the graphic novels are created and published elsewhere, in many cases they are written by other, non-Japanese authors. In my opinion, since we decline Korean manwha, I see a parallel here ... unless you can correct me and show me that they are released in Japan?

Yes Kel, after research I found though they're written by English romance authors and art by Japanese manga artists, they have been released in Japan...since December 31st of last year! Called: A girl in a million.

Yup! I did my homework!

Now, this isn't to say I'm arguing it--as stated: Korean manwha was declined and they're not 100% manga, so fair enough--a decline is a decline...

As far as the lines of manga, I agree with Danielle. CLAMP is another example of a "line" that we have not approved; you can apply for the individual series and/or one shot works, but not the line as a whole.

Yep, I agree too otherwise you'll probably get flooded with requests...but oh well, now this subject is covered in case anyone else has the same idea.

Hi guys,

I have a question...but I wasn't sure what to do...post it here or via the contact forms...so I chose here.

I've been reading a title line by Harlequin Romance Books; it's called: Harlequin Pink: Ginger Blossom. And I'm already a fan!
Now, why am I posting here and not the TFL? Well, if you follow this link: Harlequin Pink, you'll see why...

Or if you don't have time to check it out...well here's a quick run down...

Basically the romance publishers have gotten together romance authors and manga artists to create the new line. They're like a complete "sweet" romance put into a manga...at the moment five different titles in the line are available in stores...

So what's my question?

If I wanted to make a FL for this line of "mangas" where do I apply for it? There's no real place, as it's a manga line not one particular manga series by the same author e.g. BSSM;...General? Fanstuff? Companies?

Atm, I'm just thinking about it...but I thought to ask before I give it serious thought....
