Hello, Senior Staff, first may I say, congrats on doing such an awesome job so far!

Second, I have been having a question in mind for a while, and wish for an answer. When making an application, as we all know, there is a section to write any comments. This can be used for giving more info on the topic so the staff know that it can be approvable, but lately, I have been seeing people write essays and other details on how much they love that topic and wish to have it. That is a bit unrelated to the point of that section - which is mostly for questions and other info as the title says, but somehow, I'm wondering if that helps them get an approval.

Regarding how an application is decided, does the comments make some sort of impact to show how much they love such topic? Or do they check their own site to see that? I myself never really write anything besides more info, but I'm wondering if not writing anything, which is optional, hurts my chance of getting it? If not, then how does the staff know the affection of the topic to the applicant? I know it isn't one of the major reasons how it is decided, but it is one of the factors, and I wish to know that for all this time, I'm not killing myself already.

A lot of factors are taken into account when staffers select an owner for a fanlisting.  Each staffer may make decisions in slightly different ways.  Not writing comments or writing comments wouldn't guarantee that you'll be rejected or approved.  I personally always write comments when I apply, but that's just because I tend to babble about things I love (I've always done this).  When I staffed a category I would take comments into account, but they were not the sole basis of my decision when approving a subject.  Below you can some more information on how we go about approving subjects at the network.

How are applications approved?
Each staffer uses a different method to decide on applications. The process isn't a quick one and there is no 'special way' to get approved. Some things that are used to decide applications are: number of fanlistings currently, number of fanlistings on upcoming, number of fanlistings in the category, number of fanlistings on the topic, history with the network (this refers to continuous troubles rather than problems with the staffers), html experience (we want to know you can already build a site), "fan-ness" (comments help sometimes), etc. Sometimes, if the decision is difficult, the staffer may consult another staffer or the senior staff for guidance. It is definitely a subjective process, but all staffers use common sense and good judgment when processing applications.
