Songs category: not so popular anymore?

First time for me to open a thread here, but I was curious about what everyone else think about this topic :bounce:

In the last months (but I'd say there are signs of this also in the last year and a little more too..), I've noticed that the Songs category is not "popular" as it used to be. I mean, it doesn't get as many application as it used to, and many of the opening/endings of the anime of the recent seasons, even the most popular series, don't have a fanlisting. I was wondering, am I the only one who got the feeling that fanlistings for songs are not so charming for fanlistings owner anymore?

Or is it just that it's a period in which the quality of the openings/endings is not as high as in the past? Well, that's a matter of personal tastes, obviously... but I feel like there is more than that. Also, I have the impression that lots of songs that used to be very popular, when removed don't get any application. It's true that the popularity and the number of application decrease also for characters and series too, when time goes by and the fandoms are replaced, but I feel like the Songs category suffers this effect even more.

Or maybe, could be that fanlistings owners, nowadays more than in the past, prefere to focus on characters/series/relationships and consider them more "important", so they prefere not to increase the overall number of their fanlistings or of fanlistings in that fandom, especially if they have other wishes related to that series?

What do you think?

Hmm, I don't own any Songs fanlisting, because is really hard (for me?) to find a song that I would fall in love with. I mean for example FMWS has a lot of good songs (really good!), but I'm not "in love" with any of them (damn, my english). But I have one song that I'd love to make a fanlisting for .. but it's already taken :I (I was wondering, is it possible to make a fanlisting for a dubbed song? I love Digimon's first opening (Butterfly - and this song already has a fanlisting) in german version (Leb deinen Traum)? It's actually the same song ...)- and I hope you'll understand what I want to ask :<>

There's a large variety of reasons behind that indeed but in my case it's mostly because I haven't been following any new series/fandom in a while at least in the anime side. I keep grabbing lots of manga though but those don't have OP/ED xD;. Also, even new OP/ED on still on-going series (ie: Shippuden to name one) have been lacking great themes for a while now x: it's kinda hard to see say, UVERworld, performing an Opening theme on the 7th or so season so it's more likely to not have a big name performer + big title song being featured ): that's kinda sad but that's how I see it so far.

Thanks for your replies, Nami and Mitzrael! :D

Nami: don't worry, your english is fine and I've understood what you mean! :D Well, guess it's something personal, though >_< (and I think you can apply, there are a couple of Sailor Moon and Tsubasa Chronicle song listed with their english version, If I am not mistaken, but better ask Tec, I think ;)

Mitzrael: I got your point, actually I haven't thought about the most popular series not having "good" songs and huge perfomer/groups for their 6th/7th seasons.. That's one of the reasons for sure ^_^

I'd be happy to read more opinions, if someone else has something to say! >_<

Hm, difficult. I actually own two song fanlistings, one I even opened in 2011. I listen to a lot of anime music and I adore a lot of songs, but I only apply for songs that I can't get enough of.
It's also the fact that not so many people seem to join song fanlistings... Yeah! Break! Care! Break! managed to get 10 in two years, and Kuchizuke 3 which I opened last February (but who knows how many more people will be joining this upcoming time).
I also remember my previous Cha-La Head-Cha-La (DBZ) fanlisting not being all that popular, I ran that song fanlisting for a few years.

Though today I was actually think about applying for another song though! But I kind of own a lot in that franchise already (Shiki) so that's why I haven't (yet) :sweatdrop:

I've noticed this trend too.  I hardly have any fans for my songs.  I guess the anime they are popular but I hardly have any fans.  I'm also planning to apply for a couple more songs once I have some spaces open.

I think you also have to look at what is the popularity of the anime series outside of Japan.

Especially in North America, there has been a big decline in the amount of series being dubbed/shown on TV.  Grant it, not all of the dubbed series on TV in the past kept the original OP/ED, but some did, and it accessed a larger audience.  Also, it seems that only the most popular series are even being brought to DVD here.

And like others, I do not watch too many anime series, but prefer the manga versions.

I only have one song fanlisting, and it has a lot of members, but it was adopted, and the original owner started it back in... /checks ...2004.  But the join rate is pretty low.  I used to have one or maybe two others in the past, but they were never high membership fanlistings.

I have noticed this somewhat in the last few years. There used to be such competition over songs, and nowdays, the category seems half empty. XD For me, I think, as a general, songs are the quickest things I lose interest in. I think in terms of all my years at tafl and the fanlistings I've applied for, the biggest turnover of fanlistings being closed/adopted out has to be songs. It's not so much that I stop loving a song, because I usually restrain myself to waiting to see if I do love it before applying, but, I just don't love it enough to keep running said fanlisting.

Loving a song tends to go through phases: characters and the like are pretty consistant, in my opinion. :)

Thanks girls, for your opinions!! >_<

Bura-san: yeah, that's true, songs doesn't get so many members.. but some of them used to (even if not as many as characters or relationships or series), I think they get less members because in general, nowadays fanlisting are not joined as they used to be.. Speaking of which, still have to join Kuchizuke myself and I think you should apply for the other songs, especially if it is the one I think

Nami: good luck, then!

Sailorchick: I'm glad you will, there are so many songs out there that deserve a fanlisting! Well yes, less popular the series is, less the songs are known and loved, and therefore their fanlisting joined.. Glad you noticed as well!

Clover: thanks for bringing another point! Actually I hadn't thought about popularity outside Japan and how the decline could be one of the causes, if not the main, probably.

Espo: that's what I meant!! Also the absence of competition now is something that made me think the category is not as popular as it used to be. And actually, also the fact that songs tends to go throught phases is a big truth.. Of which I hadn't thought even if it's the same for me, and even if actually, if I look at the few fanlistings I had closed in these years, they are songs more than anything else. Because I passed that phase and I didn't felt like give them a proper revamp.. it's not that I don't like anymore, but it's true that they haven't been ultimate as other songs I own or as characters or series could be.. and maybe if people want to cut fanlistings down, it's more likely to close or let go songs more than other subjects... Thanks for bringing this!  :D

I have a teeny question.
You know the anime Higashi no Eden? /Eden of the east?/. The opening music to that is a song by Oasis making it not technically an "anime" song if you get me. Would you be able to apply to apply for the actual song AS the Eden of the East opening, or would it come under Thefanlistings.org's fanlist?

I'm a tad confused ^^;;

I had to look at the Songs category past updates XD; but the song had already been approved back in 2009 (it's no longer listed though) and I don't recall TAFL taking a stance on this one (ie; being not approvable afterwards) so you would have to ask at the Songs category subforum first :)

I don't listen to Japanese music nor watch anime anymore. I just watch old nostalgic series from my childhood/teen years that are still special to me, but I don't go out of my way to watch something new. I never applied for any particular songs, just one music of fanlisting and I feel like owning the music of fanlisting is the same as owning all the individual songs. Heh. Though I do  kind of want to apply for one song.
